Raw Chit-Chat!

Hi everyone!

I'm planning on going raw for the entire month of August and I thought it would be great if we had a raw chit chat spot! I know a lot of other vegwebbers have expressed interest in either eating raw or going raw--so maybe we can help each other out here! I'm a total noob when if comes to raw, but I'm hoping my 30 day experiment will turn me into a master class raw veganist! I will be blogging everyday during August and posting pics and recipes of what I am eating--should be some great stuff plus all the "Raw Blogs" will be public!

I already have a bunch of questions! Can anyone help?

Raw milk--are there any store brands out there or do I have to make my own? Any super simple recipes for nut milk?
Dried sea weed (like wakame) how long do you soak it for?
I don't have a dehydrator and 150 is the lowest setting on my oven--how can I dry/toast oats, etc. and still have them be raw?
How the heck do I make sun tea?

OK then! That's what I got for now--I hope this can be a great place for raw info!!!

Really great!  Things don't normally effect me much, but even during that short try I noticed my mood and energy improving. I woke up before my alarm each day, did my pilates routine gladly before work, and even ended up getting the elliptical I've been thinking about for the last year or so.  And actually USING it...lol.  I've been doing two 20 minute sessions a day.

I found a use for my mega-caloric granola.  I put it on the top of soaked groats.  Yummers!

The idiots Guide to Eating Raw is here! I totally want to buy this--but I'm betting my month will be up by the time I would get it--so I'm just going to wait for my library to get it in...but I thought you all might want to check it out--it's supposed to be really rawsome (<-------ahhhh hahaha see what I did there--oh I make myself laugh...)

I don't think the question is whether I should but whether I want to...I'm sure I would be much healthier staying a raw vegan, but I honestly have no desire to stay fully raw. I'm 9 days in and I'm already really bored with everything I'm eating and dying for cooked beans, tofu and baked goods! I also think it would be really hard to be fully raw through fall and winter--I'm in Michigan and once the fall harvest ends everyone pretty much resorts to canned and jared items (both not raw) with just a little bit of fresh fruits and veggies comming in from south america or where ever...

I will though slowly transition back to cooked after my month is up-- I think it would be too much for my system to immediately go back to all cooked, I think it will take me another month to transition. But I know that I will keep eating raw meals on a regular basis because there are some things I just really like (some soups and dehydrated goodies!). I also may consider doing "Rawgust"  every year--that would be cool, and about as much fully raw as I can take  ;D

Capture, I think you're rubbing off on me.  I ate raw by accident yesterday....except for the cup of coffee.  I didn't even realize it until this morning.  Perhaps today I'll do it on purpose. :)

Capture, I meant should as want... sorry. I know what you mean about being bored with what you eat! I was raw for about 6 months, and totally got used to it and really loved it after about the first month (which really seems like a breaking-in period). I wanted to eat cooked black beans SOOOO bad for the first month! I always wanted to cheat and make burritos/chimichangas... but I ate things that were protein-heavy and fatty to make up for it. I still drink green smoothies and lots salads and as much greens as humanly possible!

That's so cool Storm! Good for you--it feels really good doesn't it?? My insides feel so squeaky clean--it's actually really weird that I can feel that...

Have you eaten at grassroots? I've had a few of their raw dishes. Pretty good!

You know I kinda figured that's what you meant--but it's hard to tell sometimes so I just went with the literal just to be on the safe side :P

Yeah...I'm really getting used to eating raw--my brain just doesn't see the cooked food anymore (like when I'm shopping, etc.) but I am having mad cravings for stuff--especially beans! And OMG! I so want a burrito! Maybe that will be my first cooked meal--of course I can see that being real messy...if ya know what I mean (sorry! totally TMI!  ;D ) Today I picked up some Go Raw! flax bars and I also found some Flax Masters dehydrated hummus mix that you just add water too! I'm so excited to try them!!! Those kinds of things make life easier one me. I'm really not into the 3 hour food prep thing to try and make a bunch of raw fruit and veggies look like a meal. I would rather just graze on raw/fresh/dried fruits, veggies and nuts. It is soooo much more simpler!

Capture, all I craved when I was raw was pizza and burritos!!! I don't know why... After the first month though I stopped having cravings and cooked/processed food just disappeared.

OMG! That is so funny because on my walk home from the store today, while eating a flax bar, all I could think about was pizza! Oddly enough I have also been craving dairy and meat too--that is waaaaaaaay unusual for me, so I wonder if I'm missing some nutrients...I should eat a high fat dinner tonight--maybe some flax crackers and guacamole!!!! Or maybe I can do some kind of raw-flourless burrito...oh man, now I'm craving mexican again! I better go eat some fruit...

hahaha I ate... and ate... and ate.... and ate.... you get the idea. I was never full! Well, after I got transitioned, I would get full and feel satisfied, but I still ate A LOT OF RAWNESS! So, anyways... I ate more than I ever had and lost around 15lbs in the first month! And I'm already skinny! I was 150 flat and stayed there after I got there. People thought I looked like a twig hahaha.

Well, I am uber-concerned about you and your IMO unsafe calorie restrictins, so I did some online research that didn't turn up anything useful, so I figured I'd turn to my experts, which as always is... vegwebbers.

Vegwebbers are the experts--we can both agree on that at least  :D

capture: for you burrito/taco needs.

you can use walnuts that are seasoned with mexican spices for a "meaty" filling. then use avocado, lettuce, tomato, peppers, etc. this is mega yummy! you can even blend some sunflower seeds with a little salt and lemon to make a "creamy" dressing for it. that is one of my favorite raw foods to put together and it is mega easy.
