Using a juicer?

Does anyone have any recipes or suggestions for a juicer.  I am tired and weak all the time.  :( My husband bought me a jucier. I would love to know what would be the best thing to put in it.  I can put raw vegetables in it too.  Also, what is the differance in fresh versis canned vegetables?  Canned from my garden this summer.  Thank you in advance for any information.  Julia

i used to make beet/carrot/celery/appleORtangerine juice a lot. green juices are probably good to get your energy up. You might want to make sure nothing else is wrong before trying to cure yourself with juice, though. what do you normally eat?

raw is definitely preferable because canned has a lot of nutrients cooked out of it, i can't see the juice of canned foods having much nutrient content at all.

With canned food, there's generally a lot of sodium. If you're going to use canned, I'd definitely recommend putting it in a strainer and rinsing it well, because that will get rid of a lot of the extra sodium.  But I do think nutrients are lost in canning. If you canned it yourself, I'm not sure how the nutrients would be different.

As for the juices, there are lots of recipe books out there.  I have one called The Big Book of Juices and Smoothies which I reallylike.  It even tells you what the strong points of each recipe are (energy, immunity, etc.). That said, I'm tired and weak all the time too, and after several years I found out it was because I was anemic (something that most juices won't fix!), so I'd definitely recommend going to the doctor for a full blood check.

Hey, what brand/model of juicer is it?

My favorite recipe is 2 apples and 4 beets with their leaves juiced together. It tastes similar to grape juice.

i bought my JuiceTiger from the thrift store for a little more then $12.  it has juiced everything from wheatgrass, to halved apples and other fruits.  it works like a charm.  now i grow my own spelt and wheat grasses for juicing, add in some apple, ginger, and/or celery, and i've got an easy, quick few shots of energy in a glass....more nutritious than coffee, and i feel great knowing that i grew 1/2 of the ingredients (well at least the grasses) in my townhouse indoor garden!

It is a Jack LaLanne Juicer.  I really like it.

Hi!  Your juice sounds great.  Could you give me details on how you set up you indoor garden.  What kind of lighting?  What all do you grow?  I would love to start something like this.  Thank you.  Julia

sure! i have big sliding glass double doors in my kitchen leading to the patio, so i have an old bathroom hutch that i use for a plant stand.  i used the organic earthbound farms salad plastic containers to hold the soil, and sprouted the seads in a glass jar before i spread them out over the soil.  cover the sprouts up with a little soil, and cover for 1-2 days to build humidity.  uncover and let grow; it takes about a week before you have a full bushy stock of wheat/ speltgrass! i usually get two batches out of one seed-laying; so its pretty efficient; one batch gets me about 3 days worth of juice.  (1/2c loosely packed clippings for me go into one juice batch).
