Weight loss

My husband has realised that, like me, he needs to lose a lot of weight. Can anyone suggest a menu plan please. This may be my chance to steer him away from meat! Many thanks

I just read this book:

The McDougall program for maximum weight loss by John A. McDougall; recipes by Mary McDougall.

It has recipes and more important - explains the basics of how our bodies work so that you can make your own healthy vegan menu for weight loss.

Thrive forward is a great program to try. Remember to transition in gently to a diet with less processed foods. Remember that slip ups happen but just keep on trying and you will find what's right for you.

Help, just went Vegan and gained 3 pounds! I do eat a lot of oats. does anyone think that may be a problem. I eat either steel cut oats or a homemade granola (oats, seeds, nuts, aagave, coconut) for breakfast and sometime i have the granola for a snack. I have a vegi sandwich on daves killer whole wheat bread for lunch and usually a salad and bean soup or pasta for dinner. Carrots, almonds, raisins, oranges for snacks. my husband went vegan only a few days a week and of course lost 4 pounds and i gained 3. I just thought i would lose weight.

I have successfully lost 12 pounds recently since changing my diet. If your gaining weight (or simply want to lose weight) try to limit sugar, processed foods and simple carbs. Eat complex carbs but do not overcompensate by eating more than the recommended daily amounts. Fill up on fresh fruit and veggies. Changing your diet can be challenging task at first so start slowly and excerice a little more. Allow yourself to have treats twice a week so you do not burn out.

The documentaries Hungry For Change and Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead are very informative and motivating.

Also, I use a free food tracker program on www.sparkpeople.com to monitor my daily intake of calories, carbs and protein. You can also track your exercises, read articles and have access to a large database of recipes including vegan.

Good luck with your weight loss efforts :)

Forgot to mention that planning healthy meals in advance has been key to losing weight. If I do not have a plan in place then it is so easy to go back to bad habits. I recommend making 5 salads or veg base soups prepackaged for lunch for the week. A week or two worth of menu planning in place too. Also, I keep veggie stir fry in the freezer and lightlife tofu hot dogs in the fridge so always something my my family and I to eat just in case.
