Anyone try Daiya vegan cheese yet?! Any other good vegan cheeses??

It melts and stretches. I had it in a grilled cheese sandwich and it was the most amazing thing!! It melted, got gooey and stretchy and tasted just like cheese. Weirdest thing, it's made with Cassava!? So it's soy free too. I swear, I don't work for them but this is the closest thing I've had to real cheese EVER: http://daiyafoods.com/

I also like teese, follow your heart and cheezly. Pros and cons to all of them but I can't believe how far vegan cheese has come in a few short years. Any others I should know about??? I'm always on the look out for new vegan cheeses!

My Daiya went moldy before I ever had a chance to make pizza - all 3 packages (2 unopened)!  :'(  I'm sure I'll try it again someday, but since I paid so much for shipping & the cheese itself ain't cheap, it'll be awhile.

That's really sad!! I'm sorry that happened to you. :(

I requested Daiya at our GFS, and asked them to bring back the Tofutti slices.

Aww, that sucks JessaCita!  :'(
For future reference, you can freeze it (that's how the folks at Pangea store it).

I just ordered 2 bags, and I'm so excited, I did standard shipping to Minnesota and am praying it won't go bad.  I love that it is soy free and am drooling over the pictures of it on pizza from their website.

It won't!  I live in Minnesota, too, and I was worried about not paying extra for the ice pack & expedited shipping.  But it arrived totally fine!

Oh, man!  I thought about that, too - but I thought about it too late.  Now I know for next time, though!

Another thing Jessacita was talking about!  :)>>>
I am very interested in it.
We used to be able to buy Tofutti slices at our store, but no longer...
I loved those. I bought Galaxy slices last time, and they are all right..don't melt well. I don't like Vegan Gourmet.
More reviews in the dairy alternative thread. ...Don't hit me, people.

vegan gourmet is all i can get in this small hick texas town i live in, but i would really like to try this product.  I'm going on line tomorrow to see if i can order some

Unbelievable. Daiya Italian cheese is the best vegan cheese I've ever had, and I've been a tough critic of vegan cheeses, likening it's texture to soft plastic.

I stopped by Whole Foods after work and was excited to find "Daiya Vegan Cheese Italian Shredded" in those clear plastic containers, pre-weighed with a sticker sealed across it, you know like when you buy deli salads by weight. It was in the same section where you find Follow Your Heart and other vegan cheeses. Mine was $2.30 for .23 lb and provided way more than I needed for the pita pizza I made for dinner.

I sprinkled Daiya on a pita pocket and put it in my toaster oven. In less than 5 minutes it was already melted. Not soft, but melted! Hallelujah! I added fresh basil and tomato slices to complete my pizza. It was delicious, with a buttery flavor that complemented the basil quite nicely. This is one vegan cheese that I would actually serve to an omnivore. It was that good.

Additional praise for Daiya ...

Daiya shredded Italian also tastes great by itself, right out of the container. No weird aftertaste, and no need to blend with other flavors to enjoy like other "cheeses." Like Tofutti cream cheese, for example, which I enjoy with blueberry jam on a toasted bagel but not by itself straight out of the plastic tub.

It's too bad it contains palms oil :/ Nevertheless, I'll look for it next time I'm at the HFS.

I totally had a dream that i went into a 711 and saw this like across the store. And some one walked in announcing they were vegan and would like some vegan cheese. and i dove across to grab the last one.
Sigh. If only it was real. I want to try this like crazy!!

I just ordered the cheddar variety from Cosmo's, but something weird happened because it was moldy upon arrival  :(  I'm getting a new one in a few weeks when it's back in stock!

I got to try the Italian blend on pizza at a WF in Vegas - amazing!  It really does get all melty like dairy cheese, but it has it's own great taste.

I'm so ordering me some (along with some other fake cheeses). Vegan Essentials should be getting theirs in around next Wed, and a little cheaper than the other online stores apparently. Yay!!

Man, I'm DYING to try some and just found out there's one pizza place in all of Texas that has it...and it happens to be less than 30 minutes away! It's also near the local IKEA. I know what I'm doing this weekend.

Great photos. I got the same delicious, melty, stringy cheese when I made a quesadilla with Daiya Italian, tomato and avocado slices, the tortilla buttered with Earth Balance and flipped in a skillet.

I'm curious about the Cheddar flavor taste? Is it good?

both were good i thought the cheddar was a bit better

I made a pizza and calzone last night w/ italian blend and it was really yummy! I was a little nervous when it got here because it was room temp, but I went for it, (not givin any to the kiddo just to be safe,) and neither my BF or I got sick, so it must have just had a "cheesey" smell to it....
