The "recipe box" on Veg Web is great and everything. So much so, that I've become reliant on having my go-to recipes all in one virtual place. The problem, of course, was all of those recipes that aren't on Veg Web. I wanted a good, searchable database of all of the deliciousness I discover online.

It's called Yum. It's for macs. It's simple in the I-can't-believe-I-didn't-have-it-before-and-can-no-longer-subsist-without-it kind of way.

The product website calls it the "iTunes of recipes," and that's a pretty accurate description of it's functionality. Import stuff. Categorize it. Search it. Be done.

In edit mode, copying and pasting is breezy; it's even intuitive with ingredients lists and will break them down into amounts and units. Why? So you can tell it to double or half or quadruple a recipe and it will do all the math for you.

It stores pictures of course, and in the full-screen mode, you can view the steps of your recipe one at a time, in super-magnified font, while you cook. I like to be able to see the whole recipe at once, but it's still a nifty power-point-y feature.

Maybe this isn't news to anyone else. Sorry if you've all been using Yum-like software forever, but I certainly haven't, and I'm dang excited about it. Excited enough that I'm almost certainly going to pay the $20 for it once my trial runs out. Yeah, that's the downside. And although I'm experienced with bittorrent and other such freeloading, I haven't found a way around it.

I am not deterred, however, and that's a lot coming from a cheapskate like me. Hope this is useful news to some of you foodies. Here's a screenshot:
