Both bags of Daiya I bought this week contain large clumps of mold

I returned them to the store and emailed Daiya.  They want to send me a replacement bag for each damaged one.  I think that they could do a little better than that, considering how far I have to drive to get the stuff!  Plus, the reason I bought a second bag is because the first one contained mold.  Ugh.

Yep!  Both bags - two different flavors and two different lot numbers and use by dates.

idiots at wherever you bought it probably left it out or the fridge went down... they did this crap when i worked at a grocery store... meat and cheese like room temp and put back on the shelf obvs not ok... that blows about the daiya, especially since it was a drive :(

Hmmm.  I also bought a bag of pepper jack daiya this week, & it was moldy.  I took it back to the store, & every bag of the pepper jack had mold.  I bought a bag of mozzarella instead.  I haven't opened it yet, so I'm not sure how that will turn out.  I didn't see any mold through the bag window like I did with the pepper jack.  I sure hope the mozzarella is ok.  Hate taking crap back.

When daiya wasn't available in retail packaging, I always found mold in the containers Whole Foods put it in, and had to sort through it to find the non-moldy one. And had to put it in the freezer.

I haven't had that problem with the retail bags yet, though. I had a bag of the pepperjack in the fridge for like months (how I did not eat it sooner, idk) and just used it the other day - no mold. And it's 3 weeks before the "best by" date. Hmm.
I always assumed the mold was because the daiya was exposed to air so long (even in the containers Whole Foods put it in, there was plenty of air that could get in).

I wonder why Daiya has more mold problems than, like, every other vegan cheese.

It isn't Daiya's fault.  It is the retailers.  The retailer should be the one offering you the replacement.  They either didn't rotate their stock, or like posted above had some sort of refrigeration problem, either by human or mecanics.

i kinda think it is daiya's fault as well, they def have some mold issues... i think that's my main reason for sorta being sickened by the thought of it i would make a quesadilla take a few bites and then notice mold in the bag :P daiya reminds me of mold haha

It seems like there might be something on Daiya's end if it's consistently their product and not other vegan cheeses that mold, right? Unless they have a particularly mold-tasty combo that is more sensitive than other products.

i know daiya is like totally different ingredient wise than most vegan cheeses (no soy)... it must be one of the ingredients

umm..no preservatives?  I've been buying  Daiya regularly for a year now and I have never had a problem with it.

a lot of other vegan cheeses are like that, too.

hell, I had a thing of Heidi Ho vegan cheese open for, like, weeks, and nothing happened. and it's basically nuts + agar + lemon juice

I've never had a problem with mold in my Daiya either. I  agree that it definitely depends on the retailer and how they are stocking them. I buy mine from a refrigerated section and then throw it in the freezer as soon as I get home and just take bits out as needed.

EAT THEM ANYWAY

I would if I wasn't breastfeeding.  Don't want to poison my dang baby!

This is the second time I've had this problem with Daiya - both bags were WELL within their code date.  I have had this problem with FYH before, but only open packages.  Never with Dr. Cow (my fave).
