Garbage bag alternatives

Do any of you use biodegradable bags for your garbage? Are there any other alternatives? It's great that I've run out of plastic bags since I don't use them for grocery shopping, but it seems silly to avoid them when I make purchases, then have to buy them for my garbage!

We've been puzzling over the same thing at my house. Our compacter site requires things in bags or we'd just dump our trash...

i just try to create very little trash... and personally, i won't buy the trash bags... i would rather just wash out my trash can. my roomies always buy them, though, and it pisses me off!

Thanks for directing me there hespedal. I totally missed that thread while I was travelling this summer.

I think I'm going to check out the biodegradable bags at a local store and see how that goes. Well after the garbage strike in my area is over that if! If it continues at this rate, the bags would be disintigrated before getting picked up!
