Green & Black's Chocolate no longer vegan!!!
I'm not sure if this has already been posted as I have been taking a bit of a break from VW but......
I have just found out the Green & Black's chocolate is now no longer vegan. Yep, they have decided to add to add organic whole milk powder to their dark chocolate ranges. Previsouly their dark chocolate ranges in the UK were pretty much all vegan and I have a feeling they were in the US too.
I checked out the bars today in my local shops and found this out. I have also looked at both the UK and the US website and found that it seems to be the case for both countries.
I have already sent an email to them complaining about this. Please can everyone else email them too just so they know that there are people out there who are affected by this.

No, the decision to show milk as an ingredient was very hard and debated for a long time. Unfortunately we can not guarantee that our dark chocolate will be free from traces of milk as it is made on the same production line and we have therefore included it as an ingredient to ensure consumers, especially milk allergy sufferers, are aware of the possibility.

eta: if the milk is actually in TRACE amounts in the dark chocolate bars, then this ingredient should be last in the list of ingredients as the list should be organized according to quantity (mass).
i was just at whole foods and the following g&b dark chocolate bars still do NOT have whole milk powder on the ingredient lists:
cherry
ginger
espresso
mayan gold

just wanted to add that it actually is the last ingredient on the list for the dark chocolate bars that do list it.
I checked all the ones in a shop near me and they all had milk listed....but in another shop, I think they had old stock and none had milk listed.
But I guess it may be different in other countries.
Is the green and black baking chocolate still vegan or no?
I think it's strange that they included it in the actual ingredients list, though it's just a possible contaminant. Most chocolate brands just have a disclaimer after the ingredients list, but maybe some allergy sufferers were ignoring the warning?
I'd think, if it were just about being in the same facility, it would be still be on there as "suitable for vegans." o_O
This made me think of an old thread: http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=18403 in which an allergy sufferer assumed that a product labeled "vegan" was safe for her (luckily, she read more closely before she actually ate it).
For those of you who can find it, Theo chocolate is the same quality as G&B's, and almost the whole line is vegan making it a good replacement for your fix. Personally I think it tastes even better than G&B, and it is a little cheaper.
This is an old thread and happened forever ago but I am still confused about this and bought one of them that has milk as an ingredient. I see that they haven't changed the recipe, and read all the website faq. But. IT'S JUST WEIRD THAT ITS ON THERE AND IT MAKES ME CONFUSED.
as far as I could tell the dark chocolate has milk in it.
It looks like that the dark chocolate G&B, at least in Australia now is vegan friendly once more, at least the 85% one is, the 70% still lists milk as an ingredient. My partner stopped buying it when they started labelling it had milk in it, but we had a look about a month or so ago, and it's milk free. They're not old batches either, new, and with an expiry of 2012 on them.
