Homemade Conditioner

Hi, I am really looking forward to trying the "4 herbed Shampoo" that is posted on this site.  Does anyone have a Conditioner recipe that would go with it?  Forgive me if there is already one posted...haven't done my research.

I haven't looked at the recipe but I recently discovered that putting aloe juice/gel in my hair makes it soooooo soft and shiny and healthy. I have no clue how it does it, but after putting it on my skin for so long I thought I'd try my hair, and it's a miracle! I wouldn't use the processed colored brands, but only the pure aloe juice or gel (look at the ingredients, it should be food-grade).

I just put some in my hand and massage it into my wet hair and then let it airdry.

THere's an olive oil one:  http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=14574.0

I'm still skeptical - you're supposed to put condition on your hair first. :S
Of course, putting conditioner on "dirty" hair is not my thing, so I would wash it once beforehand.  BUT washing my hair, letting it sit and washing it again...that's almost too much effort for someone who won't even wear makeup.

Anyway, I'm going to try that one as soon as I find some quality lite olive oil.

yeah, yogaferret.  i'm with you on the whole effort thing.  i need something that i can use in the shower that that sets in the time I am washing my body.  I don't have time (or motivation) for the "beauty routine".

I use something heavy duty to condition my hair because I color it well, and because it is nearly down to my waist (and it was at my shoulders a little over a year ago) and it is THICK.  In fact, it is so long and so thick I don't brush it every day, my arms aren't that long.  When I do brush it, it is wonderful hair, quite my only beauty in life...smooth, slick, shiny and and getting wavy in my later years as my mom's did and her dad before her.  I dye it because it used to be a deep coppery red and as I get older, I am going blonde!!!! I was wanting dad's auburn brown with red highlights, but no, I go blond.

I will tell you that olive oil makes nice conditioner for your skin and hair and nails, but you have to drink it.  If you use any food grade oil in your hair, you have to shampoo afterwards to loosen the oil and if you don't get it all out, your hair will attract dirt particles and dust.  Lovely thought.  I think commercial conditioners have oils and water that have been emulsified and most emulsifiers that are stable are animal based.  This is a quandry.

I found the perfect solution!!!!!!
(for me anyway)
It struck me as it usually does, a day late and a dollar short, that there is the perfect fix.
DHC makes a super-refined olive oil specifically for hands and face.  I've used it before during the winter so I know it both works AND it is not sticky.  So it struck me last nite, why don't it put THAT in my hair.  Not as a conditioner, but as a leave-in product?  I used about a 6-8 drops this morning and worked it in from the tips up.  It's FABULOUSLY easy and effective.

DHC is widely available in Japan, but you can also do catalog order in USA.  If anyone is interetsed, i'll dig up the site and a link to the product. ;)

What a relief.  I hate messing with my hair.

Yogaferret, I would love the link. I really don't like to mess with my hair either (long and straight!), but the humidity is starting to rise...which makes for frizzy.

I'm getting lots of frizz now too from the humidity.

Anyway, here's the main page link:  http://www.dhccare.com/DHC/
The product is OLIVE VIRGIN OIL, 1fl oz: http://www.dhccare.com/DHC/ProductDetail.aspx?CS_ProductID=001&CS_Catalog=DHC%20USA

It's a bit expensive I guess, but you need so little, and for me, it's so WORTH it for the hassle saved.  And besides, it's all natural olive oil.  Plus, you always get to pick 5 free samples with each order.  I recommend a sampler of the charcoal body wash.  ^.^

I just wish I was still in the US - you get points for recommendations there.  :'(

Let me know how it works for you.  My hair is thick and very curly so i'm curious if it wil be different for straight hair.
