I just scored a....... (a thread about finding great deals!!!)

I  love to brag about how little I paid for something. Like my $2.00 boots, or $14 Tofurkey dinners. This thread is dedicated to all the good deals we find!  8-)

I just scored (2) three pound tubs of Earth Balance for $2.99!

At this gross discount grocery store which hardly has anything vegan, they had these HUGE ASS tubs of EB (commercial size?) for $2.99 each. I did not realize until I got home that she only charged me for one, and NO I did not go back to correct her error! It is sort of far away (now I'm sure karma will bite me in the ass at some point). But jeez.....6 pounds for 3 bucks! I need to take a picture so you can appreciate how large these are. They are bigger than my head.

Anyone else get any good deals lately?

I hate fresh soymilk =(

I only like sweetened "milks" unsweetened are sick as hell to me :p

you know how some soymilks taste "beany"? imagine that times 50. I tried making some "cheese" with it, hoping the flavor would complement it or go away, but no: super beany cheese. =/
but i say if you find it, try it. evidently some people like it.

yeah, fb it was um, beany.  Much beanier tan I expected, I'm not sure of it.  I think I prefer it to the other stuff I've had in NZ, but not as much as the cheapo supermarket own brand stuff in the UK.  I think it'll be much better in cooking than the other NZ soy milk, just coz I'm pissed off with my savoury sauces ending up with a sweet undertone.

Oww, I wouldn't recommend it for Mr Oww, just coz it would probably put him off soymilk, because it is definitely beany.  But maybe the sweetened sort would be better for him.  Just for you guys I may try the sweetened stuff next time I go to the chinese supermarket.

Have you tried unsweetened almond milks? Those are probably the only milks I liked unsweetened. There's no beany taste or other weird taste--just almonds (that is, if you like almonds!).

I guess I'll try the almond though I think that was the kind I didn't like... What brand/ flavor do you typically get?

My favorite is Blue Diamond, unsweetened vanilla (in the aseptic tetra pack). They also have an unsweetened chocolate that I think is pretty good, too. I've tried the unsweetened Pacific Foods almond milk, and I don't like it as well as the BD.

Okay, not only did I get organic tofu for 2/$5 today but I wanted to try out the recipe that hotcooknmama gave so I went to the store to look for Old Bay seasoning. Before going to look for it near the seafood I looked at the organic seasoning but couldn't find it. Then all of a sudden I saw just one random bottle of store brand Old Bay seasoning (called Captains Bay). I have no idea how it got there because they discontinued the store brand organic seasonings a LONG time ago! Well, I went to the price checker and it said it was only $1.89, cheaper than Old Bay seasoning and 100% organic!!!!

You think that's a good price? That's what I get it for all the time now, but it was less than $2 where we lived before. :\

WOW! Tofu is cheap near you! It's around $4 here for the big ones (not mori-nu) and the price keeps jumping up and down all of the time.

I scored 3 pumpkin plants (could've taken 5) for free at the farmers market today!

I got some tofu on sale at 99 Ranch yesterday... it was 1.09. Not even that good of a sale. Sometimes it's 75 cents.

BUT I got a boatload of chives for 50 cents.
And 3 lbs of Yukon potatoes for 99 cents.
And 2 lb of somen for 1.19

Damn! You should see everyone get excited when tofu is 2/$5 here! I can't believe how cheap you guys get tofu!

If you're in the city, you can check out Chinese/etc grocery stores for tofu. Usually way cheaper, as is seitan and soy stuffs. I think if tofu was 2/$5 I'd just stop eating it!

word on the cheap tofu... organic is like $1.69 at Mother's not on sale... like $1.25 on sale

looks like 10 more coolness points added to so cal's total LOL

I don't live in the city and pretty much never leave my area so 2/$5 is awesome to me. Everything vegan here is expensive and they keep discontinuing things that I can eat.

aw, lame =( reminds me of being in Merced, where the only vegan specialty things were in a small section of the grocery store, all over priced. Because not many people bought them, things were often close to their expiration date, with tofu at 3.99 and vegenaise at 7.99. Yeah.
