Vegan Boots & Shoes

I always have the WORST time finding professional, good-looking dress shoes that are vegan.  So does my husband.  This week we both found shoes we are very happy with.

My husband's shoe is the JUSTIN, available at Mooshoes.com. It comes in brown and black.

My shoe is the "WOMEN'S CHOICE" by LifeStride, available at shoes.com.  It comes in dark brown, light brown, and black.

At shoes.com, you can type in "vegetarian" in the search area and get their non-leather shoes.  At zappos.com, they have a vegetarian shoes link on the right side of the screen.

Hope someone finds this helpful!

Some men's shoes might be OK, but I do like heels.  Wide shoes are hard to find, even in leather though.
I hate my big feet.  :-\

i've had some luck finding vegan shoes at places that sell cheaper shoes; think payless, sometimes target, khols.  i think that because the items are less expensive, they choose to make them with cheaper plastic/ man- made materials, which works great for me because i don't like to spend lots of money on clothes anyway! i mean it's not environmentally great with petroleum products and all, or the unfair labor i'm sure they are made with, but i guess something's got to give. too bad we can't have it all!

I have to say - I haven't purchased any shoes since I went vegan. I keep using my old ones - not sure how much longer that will last, lol. Because, frankly, I have looked everywhere in every conceivable vegan shoe place and all of them are .... well, ugly.

I don't understand why they can't make the same type of styles as leather. I mean, just because I'm vegan doesn't mean I wear birkenstocks and have dreads. Which are what most vegan shoes look like. I'm not saying anything is wrong with that syle. It's just not my style of preference.

Mooshoes I've found to be the only exception. But, even then, I can't find anything I'd wear. I love, love, love boots. But, I love them with stilettoes (sp?). Most vegan shoes are not with silettoes. I don't know, maybe they think all vegans like comfort. Whereas I'm more like, forget comfort - let's go for racy and sexy, lol.

I feel your pain!!  I am a recovering cute shoe addict!  Check out the following websites:

Mooshoes looks great! I like their bags too! Thanks for the tip!

Another note, I just took off my shoe to make sure they were canvas (They are, I got them  rei a while ago not sure if they still carry them) & I noticed my feet stink  because I dont'' wear socks with these shoes & I wear them almost evey day :-[ Ummm I'm going home for lunch, anyone know of any common household quick fixes? I know I dont have any powder. But I do have stuff like baking soda, cornstarch, would either of them work?

just had to pop in to say i love simple shoes! not all of them are vegan but there are several that are and they are always so comfortable. they also used reclaimed rubber, recycled PET, jute, bamboo, cork, water-bases glues and organic cotton in their shoes . their line "green toe" are the ones that are most environmentally friendly. my brother just got the toemorrows and i hope they come out with a women's version!

There is a great little vegan boutique by my house in MN and they have some really cute shoes. I checked their website, they are not yet set up for online orders but you can do a order over the phone.  They are a bit pricey but CUTE!  Here is that link

I have started running, but my shoes are embarrassingly old.  I know that good running shoes are very important, so I have begun my research.  I would really like a synthetic (vegan) shoe, but right now, I'm most interested in who makes the shoe.  I would like to buy from a company that follows fair labor practices.  I'm having a little trouble finding this info.  Anyone have any tips or recommendations?

I just received these shoes today:

They are made of all synthetic materials.

Here is info on their labor practices (as well as environmental practices; the shoes came with a "green index" rating):

This is a tough thing for me. I run, on average, 10 miles every morning. When I'm lazy, it's 8 miles.

I go into an athletic shoe store where they have that sensor thingie (not sure of the technical name for it, lol) that measures how you walk/run, the placement of your foot, etc., and picks the best shoe for you.

Unfortunately, either that shoe is not vegan. Or it is vegan, but made in a sweat shop. Or it's not vegan AND made in a sweat shop.

This is my biggest conundrum, as I have not been able to find a non-sweat shop, vegan shoe that makes it comfortable for me to run, and doesn't hurt me. So, I'm really interested to see the replies to this as well!

This topic has been on my mind lately. My trail runners are vegggy I think (Montrail Hardrocks) But my fav road running sneaker definetly is not. And it took me a loooong time to find a pair that i really like. Either mainstream running sneaker companies need to make more veggy shoes or the veggy companies need to produce better & more varied products. Until then, I will continue to wear laether sneaks I suppose.  :'(

for the sweatshop aspect I THINK New Balances (or certain kinds of New Balances) are made in the US. I looked on their website and it was kind of vague, but i'm sure you could contact someone at their customer service.

I'm pretty sure that New Balance have several vegan running shoes. Also, I've read on some other veg*n board that the shoes are produced in Western countries so I think they should be okay from that point of view as well. Can't remember where I found that info, though.

Try this:

Pangea only sells New Balance shoes that are made in the USA.

Ecstatic- how can you find if a shoe is made in a sweat shop?

Well, it can be tricky. Obviously, no company writes on their website "these shoes are made in sweatshops."

But, when I find a shoe I like, I go to the company website. I check to see what they say about their shoe manufacturing. If my shoe tag says "made in China" or equivalent and there is absolutely nothing on the company website about their manufacturing, I call them. At which point, I ask about the show factory. Usually, when they start giving you evasive answers like "we're not at liability to disclose that information" - it's a sweatshop.

Companies who have nothing to hide will be more than helpful in answering all your questions about the factory, the workers, the materials, etc. Companies who are trying to hide something won't answer your questions.

Also, there are websites out there that list the companies who have sweatshops. Sweatshop Watch is one of them, but I believe they pertain to clothing companies. I'm sure there is a shoe one out there somewhere, though.

I probably seem really obsessive now when it comes to buying things! ;D

I'm very particulaer about my sneakers, its hard for me to find a pair that fits my feet well & also corrects my overpronation, but thank you all for the suggestions. Next time I need a new pair I will check out New Balance and Saucony. Maybe I will write Mizuno & ask them to make a vegan version of their Wave Nirvanas.....
