Vegan Boots & Shoes

I always have the WORST time finding professional, good-looking dress shoes that are vegan.  So does my husband.  This week we both found shoes we are very happy with.

My husband's shoe is the JUSTIN, available at Mooshoes.com. It comes in brown and black.

My shoe is the "WOMEN'S CHOICE" by LifeStride, available at shoes.com.  It comes in dark brown, light brown, and black.

At shoes.com, you can type in "vegetarian" in the search area and get their non-leather shoes.  At zappos.com, they have a vegetarian shoes link on the right side of the screen.

Hope someone finds this helpful!

Well, I don't think my shoes are going to last the Fall.  They're about 4 years old, and have been my only shoes besides church shoes and, recently, snow boots (and I live in Rochester....).  I was recently stopped on the street and informed they were the only shoes left of their kind in existence.  Even given the grain of salt I usually take with anything someone stops me on the street says,

They have to go.  Part of the reason they are in the condition they are in is that I have a lot of trouble finding shoes that are responsible to the environment, animals and people but still worth the cost.  They need to last for EVER.  Like these bad boys.

So, while I feel kinda stupid asking this, what kinds of shoes do people recommend, as far as veganness and quality go?  I'd be looking for shoes that can be worn for quite a bit of walking, and hopefully jogging and such.

Thanks to anyone with advice!

I love earth shoes. The whole company isn't vegan but they do have a good selection. Plus they are awesome for the feet and the spine.

These are all their vegan options and zappos is a very easy company to shop through. Free shipping both ways so you don't have to worry about getting the wrong size.

Zappos is great. :)
I've bought Birkis by Birkenstock in that category (veg) from them. They're comfy.
I've often been concerned that the material in the foot bed isn't vegan.
Does anyone know?

Birkenstock makes vegan sandals (which include a microfiber footbed), but they also make a bunch of sandals with non-leather straps that still have the suede footbed.  I'm not sure which ones you have.  You should be able to find out the materials used on the box.

Has anyone run across any vegan boat shoes?  Both of my kids (male and female) want a pair.  They would prefer faux leather, but canvas could work.  I found some, but the laces were leather!

Thanks!

Here is a link to Zappos vegetarian options for shoes. There must be some boat shoes in there someplace. Zappos is really easy to use also. Free shipping both ways so you don't have to worry about getting the wrong size or not liking the style.

Are crocs vegan? Does anyone know? I think it's just rubber ... but am unsure on that.

Before they got popular (though ugly) they were, originally, boating shoes. Great for sailboats, and slipper surfaces. I adore sailing, and have used crocs for that purpose. I haven't purchased any since I went vegetarian (mainly because of lack of time to sail) so I can't say for sure if they are vegan. But, they do work well for boating.

I think I want to get a pair of vegan boots.  I would rather buy them at a store so I can try them on, but if you know of any companies that let you send stuff back for free, that might be cool too.

I tried Zappos but couldn't find a section to browse both "vegan" AND "boots" so no luck.

So does anyone know of any stores, probably chain department stores, that carry vegan brands?  (As I'm typing this, I realizing what a lost cause it is!!)

Ummm I bought my last pair of boots at a DSW. They were actually accidental vegan, just nonleather cheapos, but they held up really good, even in the rain in snow & still look nice. Any big discount shoe store should have a decent selection.

I second baypuppy's suggestion for Payless. They usually have a good bit of accidentally vegan shoes  (not sure about the glue though). Also, Marshalls has some accidentally vegan shoes - some will have labels in the shoe that say "100% man made materials".

But if you want certified vegan, Ragazzi Vegan (www.ragazzivegan.com) has free shipping and exchanges. And their prices are pretty reasonable. They have a whole "boots" section.

PayLess is a good suggestion. So are stores like Mervyn's, JC Penney and Ross. I actually was able to find some cool kicks, a modified Doc Marten-style, at Nordstrom some years ago. I have also seen non-leather boot styles at Macy's and Neiman Marcus, too, though their selections are limited.

I got Earth boots from planetshoes.com last year - I love them, the site was great, and they had (at least at the time) a lot of Earth Vegan shoes.

Matt & Nat - I believe they're based out of Canada - have totally cute vegan purses & wallets.  Their products are sort of spendy, but I've scored stuff way below retail on ebay.  www.mattandnat.com

OOOOH thanks so much!!!!  :-* I'm so happy I could cry  :'( I had so much guilt over the last coach purse I bought, but I love it ( it only had a tiny bit of leather trim) But the only vegan ones I could find were either too hippyish or cheap looking! YEAH!!!  :D

ooo nice sites everyone!

If it helps, on eBay, I usually search for "faux leather shoes" or "vegan shoes" or "fake leather" or throw "manmade" in there somewhere and those will usually come up with some results.

sometimes: "artificial leather" "PU leather" or "PVC leather shoes" but these tend to turn out to be stripper boots more than anything.  So, if you're into that style..... ;)

I'm lucky enough to have a neat store nearby that has enough manmade options to keep me busy for awhile, boots included!
