You are here

Vegan Friendly clothing etc.

I hope this is the right area, but what do I need to look for for Vegan friendly clothes, shoes, belts, purses/bags etc. You get the idea. Cotton? lol. There has to be more (yes I'm new to all of this). I've been trying to look for lists of different stores or just different products in general but I'm not finding anything. I know I'm probably not going to find an all vegan friendly store, but I just need some ideas of where to go or what to look for, or just anything that anyone else has descovered and loved etc. I tend to be -ahem- high maintenance when it comes to clothes  :> lol sooo I still want to be able to dress nice but cruelty free obviously. Heeelp please!

No one? Really?  ???

Well, vegan friendly would be anything that's not leather, silk, wool, fur, etc. More environmentally friendly would be an organic cotton. Just check labels for animal fabrics. I'm not sure what else you're asking?

Some good vegan shops are: veganessentials.com, cosmosveganshoppe.com

Linen, hemp, ramie, jute, acrylic, acetate, nylon, polyester, rayon, vinyl...

In addition to the exploitation of animals, you may want to consider the exploitation of people and the environment when selecting what to buy.  Secondhand can be a good option.

Vegweb has a "Links" tab, which includes these categories:

http://vegweb.com/veglinks/29_Shoes_&_Sandals.shtml

Vegwebbers listed their favorite online vegan stores in this thread:

You can also find a number of threads on places to find shoes and handbags if you search within this "Lovin the Loot" forum (advanced search lets you limit to a particular forum).

OK, here's some shoe advice:

1. Forever21 has very cute shoes, they never use leather. It's been my best find yet.  I am very "fashion conscious", and shunning leather was the hardest part of going veg.  I work in a corporate office for a very high end fashion company, and I get so many compliments on my shoes! Best of all, they are cheap!!

2. When I want to splurge, I go for Stella McCartney. Especially love her sneakers.

3.  Endless.com allows you to filter by "vegetarian". They have free overnight shipping and free returns.

4. Target.com also has good non-leather finds

Hope this helps!

Xylem clothing (online) has beautiful eco-friendly stuff. A bit pricey, but really pretty dresses, etc... A word to the wise, they run very small, order a size larger than you normally do, 2 larger for their leggings.
