You are here

what is your favorite brand of hot sauce?

mine is Valentina,  but I love trying new ones......so tell me your favs.

I have sriracha in my fridge but my all time favorite is Elyucateco!! But, since I cut way back on nightshade veggies, my bottle lasts a lot longer!

The Chili Habanero green sauce.

This stuff and not only for the name. XD I'm also a mahoosive fan of sriracha... though most people I know call it 'chicken hot sauce' because the brand most common around here has a rooster on it... Huy Fong, I think? Tabasco's chipotle hot sauce is tasty, too.

Man, I should start making my own hot sauce. I'm nearly as fanboyish about it as tea!

Trader Joe's Chili Pepper Sauce  - I don't know how I'd live without it!
It's slightly smokey. I use it on anything Mexican (and we eat Mexican food a LOT).
I make a sauce that replaces my old habit of sour cream on everything: a bit of Veganaise, some dill, garlic, and onion powder, and some of the chili pepper sauce. I can't even imagine burritos without it.
If you haven't tried it, DO!

Cholulu with the wooden ball as the topper! I LOVE this stuff. When I go to a Mexican restaurant I get my own salsa bowl because I load it up with this delicious sauce. Mmmmmm....

I think I may have found a new favorite hot sauce.  I'll have to order some when I get a chance.

CHOLULA!  It's my absolute favorite...I'll use Frank's as a backup.
Hate Tabasco...I can't stand the pure vinegar flavor.

Also, there's a local brand where I go to school. Fly Creek Hell's Kitchen Habanero. It's made and bottled at a cider mill...soooo good. I buy it online when I'm back home.

A true hot sauce fan cannot possibly choose only one sauce as a favorite. I use different types of hot sauces on different items.

These are my favorites (in no order):

Ebesse Zozo extra-hot (this is a crazy African hot sauce my friend gets me when he goes to Shambhala)
Frank's Red Hot
Srirachi
Tapatio

These are all different styles of hot sauce that taste great in different situations. For example, I use Frank's Red Hot, Tabasco or Crystal (or something composed of vinegar and cayenne) on any type of potato (baked, fried, roasted). In latin dishes, I go with something along the lines of Tapatio, Cholula or Valentino. Srirachi works well in all Asian flavors, on veggies and on PIZZA!!! I will put Ebesse Zozo on pretty much anything, though. I love love love love that stuff!! And when I feel like adding some extra heat without adding too much extra/unwanted flavor, I will just add some hot indian chili powder to a dish. Deeeeeeeee-lish.

I love regular Tabasco on about anything. Pizza, rice, noodles, you name it.  I like the green Tabasco in my chili and similar dishes.

Texas Pete I slather on anything potato. I love that spicy vinegary taste.

Otherwise I like Cholula and trying local made Habanero hot sauces (like this one that's made in Asheville, NC, it made me come close to crying, haha).

I pretty much like all things spicy, yum, yum! I am so glad I am making tofu tacos this week, since this thread makes me want to get all spicy.

Franks is good on beans, southwestern food but is kind of mild to me.

Siracha and sambal oelek is good on all things Asian.

I use a lot of fresh hot chilis usually of the Thai style, and red pepper (on all things Italian), and cayenne for added heat.

Just found two new faves  :)>>>

Dave's Insanity Sauce: starts out mild good flavor then a sudden explosion of heat.
Liquid Stoopid: I LOVE THIS.  Instant giant bomb of insane heat.  Within milliseconds, you feel the most intense heat I've ever gotten from a hot sauce, along with a beautiful smoky flavor.

Also, I just came up with this sauce:
Ripe mangos
1 roasted habanero (or two if you want it extra hot)
1/8 teaspoon sea salt
juice of 1 lime
1 teaspoon sugar

Blend and refrigerate for a few days before using. :D

Love this.  I remembered this recipe and tried to make it from my head.  I did not remember it called for roasted peppers or sugar.  It's fine without those steps.

This is very good and super hot.  So hot I'm going to freeze half of it for later, as a little will do me.  I'm going to add it to my cajun rice and beans I'm having for lunch tomorrow.

A++++

My favorite hot sauce is Dave's Gourmet Crazy Carribean Hot Sauce.  It is not too hot and has a slight sweetness to it.  One of the first ingredients is carrots.  If it wasn't so expensive I would buy it more often.  Most of the time I use Tabasco sauce since it is cheap.

cholula is pretty decent too.

i realized the other day that i'm out of tapatio... they always have big containers of Valentina for cheap at the local store; is it similar? better?

Tapatio and valentino are both the same style of hot sauce. They are usually about the same price in my grocery store too

I bought/tried Valentino for the first time today. To me, it seems more like an enchilada or taco sauce than I was expecting. It was cheap, though..like .99.

Sriracha still wins by 8 billion.
