Which giant corporation owns your favorite tiny organic food brand?

Charts showing which brands are owned by which corporations. I'm thinking about stopping by the bookstore on the way home tonight to pick up a copy of Good Magazine.

I had been avoiding odwalla because I knew it belonged to coca cola. I just recently found out about naked juice though, which is part of pepsi co (as you can see on the list). they got bought up in 2006 I think.
My local co-op is really good about selecting companies that are mostly independent/small/local. Honest Tea just got bought up too, can't remember by whom though.
And in terms of odwalla/naked, I've switched to a local brand called columbia gorge.

Well, this explains the war between Odwalla and Naked (Coke v. Pepsi). Whatever... Odwalla's still better. :>
As far as Hain, I already knew they owned 3/4 of Whole Foods. And screw Hain's soymilk; westsoy and edensoy... blegh. Now some Dean soymilk, that's good stuff. ;)b
Note that Tofurky is not on the list, and is still awesome.
Vitasoy is also safe, as they are the only damn not American soymilk brand I know

Geez, I knew some of these but I didn't know about Odwalla or Naked. So depressing.....every brand I use is owned by a major corporation that I don't trust. :(

Cadbury owns Green and Black's?! :( That's new to me, though not surprising. Luckily this list doesn't affect me to much.

I recently bought some Celestial Seasonings tea for the first time in years... and was thoroughly disappointed!! They seem to have given up on simple and lovely herbal ingredients for the sake of nasty fake 'nature identical' flavours. Pffft. :(

I don't really have a problem with this. Of course I'm inclined to support the little guy when I can, but I also want to reinforce good behavior from the big guy. The more people buy their organic/vegan/fair trade foods the larger the segment of their business it will become. Also, they make it easier for the average person, who's not going out of the way the HFS, to buy this stuff.
Hershey owns Dagoba! Wow, thanks for this. Burt's Bees was just bought by Clorox too- who knows what will happen with that. Not that much of the brand is vegan to begin with.

The more people buy their organic/vegan/fair trade foods the larger the segment of their business it will become. Also, they make it easier for the average person, who's not going out of the way the HFS, to buy this stuff.
I agree. Just like the WalMart post that was made, even though I would rather giant corporations didn't own everything, it's better that they are offering more veg*n/fair trade options.
true, but they also have a lot of power to, uh, edit definitions and sway the government in terms of labeling practices and whatnot.
right. this is why I don't trust Whole Foods.. since they toy with what all their marketing words actually mean and have some problem with using the term "fair trade." Larger corporations are just using buzzwords they know people will latch onto to gain market share that they've lost. In the end, it's worse for local businesses, worse for the environment and worse for our choices.

After Cadbury bought up G&B, the chocolate is no longer vegan. Anyone who enjoys their Green and Black's should read labels really carefully, because word has it that the labelling in the states hasn't caught up to the ingredients listed on the G&B website.

Maybe they changed it back, but word on the street was that at least the 70% and most likely others now have some sort of milk ingredient.

I'm going to have to agree with both of you. Obviously we know that buying from these guys ISN'T the best choice out there but, making these products more readily available to the general public is, without a doubt, a good step. I'll still prefer to buy local when I can but sometimes, when you live in the middle of no where New England, you have to go to a big store and buy from the corporate giants, and I'm happier to see more of my friends and neighbors buying these brands than the non-organic, HFCS containing junk that is the alternative. :)
I have no major problem with this either, because I think that if it gets these corporations growing organic, healthy food and making organic, healthy food then all the better. Perhaps they'll change over to more organics if they make enough off of it.
