Poll: VegWeb... Name My Baby!

Well, not really.

We are indeed expecting our 2nd little herbivore in July, but we are in the name quaqmire. Everything sounds good, but nothing is perfect. We know for sure we're having a girl, so now we just need some outside perspective... so why not you guys?

Any feedback, drawbacks or comments on the names are welcome. As are middle name suggestions (we have a few in mind, but I'll not make this poll any more complicated...)

So... whatcha think?

I like the name Stella, but that isn't an option.  :-\

I like Greta and Cordelia...on the soap opera i watch, they just named a baby Cordelia and call her delia.  I think it's really pretty.  I really like Greta the best though.

Cordelia all the way!

Congratulations to You and Your family! Elanor sounds like such a little sweetie.  :)>>>

I like the name Greta, which reminds me of Gretchen....I'm quite fond of the name Gretchen.

you can't go wrong with any of those names, but Cordelia is my favorite.  I love the name Eleanor too!

I know a little girl name Concordia and everyone calls her Cordie...which is really cute. That nickname would totally work for Cordelia too....I voted for Beatrice...but Cordelia is a close second....I think Beatrice goes better with Eleanor.

Cordelia!!! I would love for that to be my name..

I chose Greta. I like Cordelia, but would there be a nickname? Cord? Meh. I like Lucille, but not so much Lucy.

A baby nicknamed Cord... that would earn me so much cred with the D&D crowd...

This is fascinating. I've thought some of the same thoughts many of you have typed, many others have never occurred to me. You guys are awesome.

and carrot_wench, Eleanor is somethin' else, let me tell ya'...  ;D

Alice was my grandma's name... I'm partial to it. My other grandma is named Eleanor though. I like Alice better.

"Mommy, why did you name me (insert winner here)?"
"Well, I asked the good people of VegWeb, and they decided what the world would call you, through a fair poll of course."

The part that makes this my favorite post so far: Alice was my Grandma's name, too.

i like alice but the new remake of alice in wonderland is coming out in the next couple years so prepare yourself for an onslaught of alices when people are reminded how pretty the name is.

i think estella and magdalena are beautiful - and i really like the shortened 'magda'

I chose Beatrice. I just like it.. and also Beatrix, as in Beatrix Potter. I think Cordelia sounds too Buffy the Vampire Slayer trendy, and Lucille (Lucy) seems to be getting more popular. I know these things aren't a concern for everyone, but I'm not big on trendy.

Me neither. Old-fashioned names are the shiz. ;)b I chose Beatrice because I love the nickname Bea; it's so sweet and elegant. All good choices, though!

Actually though, you should wait until the baby is here. She may just name herself, a lot of kids do. My husband's best friend had an unexpected third child (his youngest was 13 at the time!) and they decided to name it Paloma (Dove) when they found out it was a girl. But when she was born, they kept finding themselves calling her Alicia--which wasn't even in the running! They realised that was her name.

So don't be surprised if Baby Three comes out of the chute, extends a hand and says, "Hi, I'm ------".

Greta is a lovely name, I picked that one. Partly because it's the name of the singer from the Hush Sound and she is an awesome lady with a cracking voice, but hey. I thought Cordelia and Beatrice were a little old-fashioned, especially until a girl gets a bit older and grows into them as it were.

That's sort of what we did with Eleanor. We had a couple of names we liked and we decided to meet her, and ask her what her name was. After things calmed down a bit, I held her and asked her, "Is your name Eleanor, or is it Thalia?" The second time I asked she made a peep after Eleanor and silence after Thalia. I took it as a good sign she was an Eleanor.

3 years later, she wears the name well. I could think of no name that would suit her more.

Thalia, for those wondering, is the Greek muse of comedy. All of Eleanor's in-womb shenanegans had us convinced she was a comedian, so we liked that name as a possibility for her. However, with this one, the name Thalia didn't seem appropriate. It's cool how you can get a sense of a person even before they make their grand entrance.

Keep the comments comin, my wife and I are enjoying this, and it's even helped us narrow the field a bit...
