Poll: VegWeb... Name My Baby!

Well, not really.

We are indeed expecting our 2nd little herbivore in July, but we are in the name quaqmire. Everything sounds good, but nothing is perfect. We know for sure we're having a girl, so now we just need some outside perspective... so why not you guys?

Any feedback, drawbacks or comments on the names are welcome. As are middle name suggestions (we have a few in mind, but I'll not make this poll any more complicated...)

So... whatcha think?

Last names don't hold too much water with me when it comes to naming baby girls.

Unless you are raising your daughter to be a staunch feminist and keep her maiden name!  ;)b

eta:  The heteronormativity of this statement still bothers me.  What if you daughter is lesbian? What if you daughter chooses to have a lifelong relationship without ever bowing down to the institution of marriage?

You guys are actually scary close to guessing my actual last name. Which is... cool.

Diezhell , a fine idea, however my wife and I are true American "melting pot" types. We'd have to select German, Italian, Russian, Slavic, Scottish, Hebrew, English names... and several others! When asked my nationality background, I usually just reply, "Euro-Mutt".

NJA, we did consider that a bit. My wife really loved the name Indira (after Indira Gandhi), but we decided it might be a bit odd. We have no direct "claim" to the name in our heritage, and we didn't want to come off as disrespectful or trendy.

I'm not sure if that even makes sense. I guess it came down to wanting to respect other cultures while at the same time having our kids take care in the all ready diverse background they share.

There's a "Greta" on SVU, and I was thinking about how much I like the name. Too bad she was a victim!

That made me think of "Donna Chang" on "Seinfeld."  Anyone else remember?  ;D

I used to live with a Greta.  She looked like Reese Witherspoon's twin and her personality was a la Legally Blonde.

Thanks all! Voting is locked.

As it stand right now, we're down to two choices: Greta and Alice. Middle names TBD.

I'll be sure to crow loudly when the baby chooses her name come July.  ;)b

I think Eleanor and Alice (Elli and Ali for short! )  go better together than Eleanor and Greta (no nickname for Greta also, I don't think)..... that's my opinion, as a fellow parent of a little girl  :)
Otherwise, I would pick a pretty Italian name like Ambra or Amba or Abra or Elsa....Eleanor and Elsa is a pretty combo too  ;) Or a hippie-ish name like Skye Sunflower....or Iris
Good luck and give it time...you don't have to decide before the baby comes...it's good to have your favorite names picked out and then see what the baby resembles more....the name has to match your precious little one! Unless you're dead set on a name lol ...again good luck!!

Warning name meaning you may want to delete this before looking down

The girl's name Alice \a-li-ce\ is pronounced AL-iss. It is of Old German origin, and its meaning is "noble, exalted".
The girl's name Beatrice \be(a)-tri-ce, beat-rice\ is pronounced BEE-a-triss. It is of Latin origin, and its meaning is "voyager (through life); blessed".
The girl's name Cordelia \c(o)-rde-lia, cor-delia\ is pronounced kor-DEEL-yah. Probably from the Latin word "cor", meaning "heart".
The girl's name Greta \g-re-ta\ is pronounced GREH-tah. It is of German origin. Short form of Margaret (Greek) "pearl".
The girl's name Lucile \l(u)-ci-le\ is a variant of Lucille (French) and Lucy (Latin), and the meaning of Lucile is "light".

I'd go with Alice, then she could have a restaurant.  ;D
