Poll: VegWeb... Name My Baby!

Well, not really.

We are indeed expecting our 2nd little herbivore in July, but we are in the name quaqmire. Everything sounds good, but nothing is perfect. We know for sure we're having a girl, so now we just need some outside perspective... so why not you guys?

Any feedback, drawbacks or comments on the names are welcome. As are middle name suggestions (we have a few in mind, but I'll not make this poll any more complicated...)

So... whatcha think?

Congratulations!!!  Before I vote, I have to know your other daughter's name...it would be nice if they go well together!

Eleanor. I happen to think they all go nicely with it. It was one of my considerations as well.  :)

Definitely Alice!
I love old fashioned names that you rarely hear anymore.
Our first girl will be named Norah.
I can't wait - Congrats!

I think Alice is the prettiest name, but Lucille goes best with Eleanor...  Hee hee, you have to consider these things!

I think Eleanor is a great first name.

I think Eleanor is a great first name.

So does Eleanor. In fact, for a while, she was convinced we should name the baby Eleanor, too. We'd suggest another name to her and her reply would be, "Okay. But we'll call her Eleanor for short."

Gawds I love that girl.

I chose Beatrice. I just like it.. and also Beatrix, as in Beatrix Potter. I think Cordelia sounds too Buffy the Vampire Slayer trendy, and Lucille (Lucy) seems to be getting more popular. I know these things aren't a concern for everyone, but I'm not big on trendy.

CONGRATS!!!!

I was split between Cordelia and Lucille.  I did vote for the former though.  Either work with your lovely Eleanor!

Oh my gosh.  Those are all fantastic names.

I chose Cordelia in homage to Anne of Green Gables.  I looooove that name.  But they are all good!

I like Beatrice. It reminds me of Beatrice and Ramona Quimby. I used to love those books. Ramona couldn't pronounce Beatrice, so she would call her older sister Beezus. So cute!

Alice
I wonder if I've been changed in the night? Let me think. Was I the same when I got up this morning? I almost think I can remember feeling a little different. But if I'm not the same, the next question is 'Who in the world am I?' Ah, that's the great puzzle!

See, if you name your baby Alice, and then she ends up being true to her namesake (which is one of my favorite characters ever), then she'll undoubtedly be very similar to me.

And THAT would be great (for me, not for you. I was, as my mom says, "a challenge") so I vote Alice.

My name isn't Alice.... but I sure identified with her when I was younger.

Okay, okay, I still do!

I love all of them!  It was a tie between Cordelia and Greta...so I chose greta but I love Cordelia equally.  My cousin-in-law named his daughter Lavinia which is another old name that I love.

Nicknames to differentiate between the two: Nora, Nolla, Nolly, Lena, Lenore, Leonora, Lenn.
Or you could go whole-other-way with Nolotandu, "she who is greatly loved." It's an African Language, from S. Africa, but I can't remember which people.

I chose Greta because that would have been my sister's name if I ever had one (I got 2 brothers instead).  My second choice would be Alice.  As far as middle names, my mom was planning on Greta Marie...although Marie is a really common middle name.

I looked up the meanings of all the names on babynames.com, in case you're interested:

Alice: of noble kin
Beatrice: bringer of joy
Cordelia: unknown meaning
Greta: pearl
Lucille: light

My mil is named Delia but everyone calls her Dee.  :(  My middle son is named Nicholas and when he was small he was always Nicholas (I/he would correct anyone that called him nicky or nic)...until he decided that he was Nic. I think nick names can be fine if the child decides it other wise just correct people.
