vegan/ vegetarian pregnancy books?

.

I really liked Dr. Sears because he goes back to the basics of bed sharing and breast feeding.  He doesn't go in do vegetarian diets as far as I can remember b/c the books burned up w/ my sister's car.

I also recommend the series of parenting books by Dr. William Sears. I read them all when i was pregnant and nursing. I am in the process of weaning my third and last baby....she is two, so it is rather difficult as she knows what she wants! LOL!

Hear is a list of some others that are very useful if you are concerned about planning ahead for your pregnancy nutrition and for the nutritional needs of you baby. I used the Super Baby food book for my babies and they ate everything. It si about making your own baby food (which is amazingly easy, you won't believe it) and it also has info about feeding your family and other natural home recipes, etc..

The book by Dr. Joel Fuhrman talks about nutrition for your kids and pregnancy. He is pro-vegan.

Also, the book by Mothering Magazine might be interesting...I haven't read it...but I read the magazine for years.

Attachment Parenting: Instinctive Care for Your Baby and Young Child  by Katie Allison Granju, Betsy Kennedy, and William Sears
Super Baby Food  by Ruth Yaron
Disease-Proof Your Child: Feeding Kids Right  by Joel Fuhrman
Mothering Magazine's Having a Baby, Naturally: The Mothering Magazine Guide to Pregnancy and Childbirth  by Peggy O'Mara, Wendy Ponte, and Jackie Facciolo

Best of luck! I wish I still had all my books, I would've sent them off to you...I had a million....but unfortunatly I left them all behind when I moved  ::)

I don't know if I can recommend any books without hesitation, but I wanted to pass on a bit of Love from one mama to a new one:
I have a very healthy 4 year old daughter, who is vegan. I have been a vegan for about 16 years, and have taught nutrition, cooking, etc. for many years too. What I want to say is that there is so much fear taught to us about mothering, pregnancy, etc., and that you don't need to buy into it! If you are very healthy, it is all about tapping your intuition. For example: I never took prenatals, although we are taught that we have to. I do like Dr. Sears though, for many good ideas, although I don't agree with everything he says!
You will do great...get ready for a life changing experience!

Dreena Burton in Vive Le Vegan has a section on feeding your baby/toddler as a vegan.

And back when I was having my babies, Sharon Yntema (I think that's the way she spelled it) wrote a book about raising vegetarian children. Don't know whether or not it would still be in print or even accurate any more. It was more than 20 years ago that I usied it. There are a number of books out there, though. You might look on Amazon and read some of the customer reviews from titles that look promising to you.

The Vegetarian Way by Virginia & Mark Messina has sections on pregnancy, breast feeding and feeding infants & children of all ages plus it has tons of information about which foods are rich in what nutrients and sample menus.  You can buy it used on Amazon really cheap because it's an older book.

Hi Luda!

I really enjoyed Skinny Bitch: Bun in the Oven, Pregnancy and Children and the Vegan Diet by Michael Klaper (this is an old one so you may have to go to Ebay or order in B&N).

I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to add that one of my favorite blog authors is releasing a vegan pregnancy handbook.  I think it will be a great resource!  It's being published by Herbivore & will apparently be released this summer.  I know that when/if I have children, I'll definitely buy this.
