Superstar VegWebber of the Week: _algae_!

_algae_ (http://vegweb.com/index.php?action=profile;u=61259) is one of the VegWebbers I've had the privilege to meet in real life! She is funny, sweet, smart, and super fun! Plus, she is excellent at navigating new cities (she got around SF pretty dang good!) so I imagine she is doing great in Berlin! Her answers to the questionnaire are awesome and she is kinda the best, so let her know in the comments below!

VegWebber since? Apparently I registered on August 7, 2006. I came here for recipes well before that, but I didn't start posting on the forums until sometime in 2008.

Vegetarian, Vegan or ?  Vegan!

Where do you call home? I'm from Brookline, Massachusetts, but my current home is in Berlin, Germany.

What do you do when you're not on VegWeb? Lately I haven't been doing much... I sleep, read, knit, watch tv, and cook! I need to get a job here.

Do you have blog or website? yes, I just started a blog recently- http://sprechensievegan.blogspot.com/ It's pretty lame, so don't laugh...

Do you tweet? nah

One unique thing we should know about you? Um, two months ago I had to go to the ER after falling on the jungle gym while playing tag with 6 year olds.

What’s the best thing about being vegan? (if you are!) Oh, how can I pick just one thing? I get to eat the best food, show compassion for animals, and have cool vegan friends!

Favorite romantic recipe on VegWeb? I'm really not the romantic type. But can I put in a plug for my Quinoa Beet Salad with Sesame Miso Dressing? http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=24951.0 I based it off of a salad I ate at a restaurant in Barcelona when I went there with my boyfriend. So that's kind of romantic, right? And it's red, so that's appropriate for Valentine's Day. hah.

Favorite recipe on VegWeb to make for non-vegans to show them how amazing vegan food can be?  I often make a version of this Veggie Pot Pie http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=6857.0  and a version of Jenny's Famous Chocolate Chip, Oatmeal, Coconut, Walnut Cookies http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=6181.0 that I just call everything cookies. They're really good with cranberries.

One thing you wish you could make vegan but haven’t succeeded at yet? It's really hard to make a good strong icing to hold together gingerbread houses. I've made it work but it ends up looking messy. There are probably other things that I can't think of right now, but I'm generally very happy with everything I can make.

#1 Cooking secret/tip? Don't be afraid to use a little salt. Mom, I'm talking to you.

Best music to cook by? of Montreal is fun because then I can cook and dance at the same time!

Three people you'd most like to have dinner with? Real life: my boyfriend Shawn and my friends Emma and Victoria, who are both vegan. Fantasy life: I can't pick only three Beatles.

All time favorite restaurant? Probably Veggie Planet in Cambridge, MA. http://www.veggieplanet.net/

French fries or ice cream? Definitely ice cream.
Soy milk, rice milk, almond milk? I've always bought soymilk before, but here in Berlin we get this soy-rice milk that's really good- and cheap! 89 cents per container!

Tempeh, tofu or seitan? I'd say I'm a tofu girl.

I get to be the first to say congrats!!!!!

I had to go back and check.  I had just assumed you'd have already been vwotw.  Congrats!

What about a boiled frosting?  Like from the 1940s cookbooks.

Yay!!  I like the fact that you still play in/on jungle gyms (just not the falling off & subsequent ER trip).

Congratulations,

I've made a gingerbread icing too, it was strong as a rock, but resembled more of a gingerbread shack
