Superstar VegWebber of the Week: Haricot!
Yay! You'll find this week's Superstar VegWebber Haricot (http://vegweb.com/index.php?action=profile;u=163042) tearing it up in Cookbook Labs! She's making it an even more useful and fun resource and we are so thankful for that! Plus, she has a blog in French. We're in love! Yay Haricot!
VegWebber since? A little over a year, I think. Before that, I would often look on VegWeb for recipes or see what people think of some recipes from the cookbooks I have, but I would not leave any comment.
Vegetarian, Vegan or ? I’ve been vegan for 11 years and vegetarian for about 15 years.
Where do you call home? Montréal, Québec, Canada. I’ve been living there for over a decade.
What do you do when you're not on VegWeb? If I’m not working, I spend a lot of time in the kitchen – and love it –, I travel, I go to the countryside, I read books and ride my bicycle.
Do you have blog or website? Yes, I have a blog, in French, at veganamontreal.blogspot.com
Do you tweet? No… nor do I have a Facebook account.
One unique thing should know about you? I can’t really cook if I don’t follow a recipe… when I do try to improvise, it often turns out bland. Well, there are a few things I cook without a recipe. like salads, dressings and spaghetti sauce, but not many.
What’s the best thing about being vegan? (if you are!) You can feel good about what you are eating… knowing no one was killed to feed you.
Favorite romantic recipe on VegWeb? I tried this Pineapple Upside Down Cake and I really liked it. The taste reminded me of some sweets I would eat as a kid. http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=12596.0
Favorite recipe on VegWeb to make for non-vegans to show them how amazing vegan food can be? How about a cupcake? http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=41661.0
Favorite Thanksgiving recipe on VegWeb? This Butternut squash and leek soup looks very good. http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=20774.0
One thing you wish you could make vegan but haven’t succeeded at yet? Soft-Boiled Eggs.
#1 Cooking secret/tip? Sprinkling nutritional yeast everywhere.
Best music to cook by? I actually like to listen to talk radio while cooking. I keep myself informed and I learn while cooking and doing the dishes.
Three people you'd most like to have dinner with? John Robbins, Terry Hope Romero and Isa Chandra Moskowitz
All time favorite restaurant? Aux Vivres, Montreal’s first vegan restaurant. They make incredible brunches and an amazing BLT sandwich that’s served in a chapati.
French fries or ice cream? French fries, although I never say no to ice cream.
Soy milk, rice milk, almond milk? Soy milk. I like the taste and it is usually cheaper and more often fortified than other milk alternatives.
Tofu, tempeh, or seitan? I could eat tofu everyday, but I try to alternate and eat tempeh, seitan and beans every week.
wooo congrats Haricot! : )
Congrats Haricot. I feel the same way about cooking. I have to follow a recipe and not improvise or it won't turn out that good. I am trying to improve my cooking skills though.
