Superstar VegWebber of the Week: Shelloid!

I know, I know, it's about time! But you have to understand, it was a bit of a comedy of errors getting Shelloid (http://vegweb.com/index.php?action=profile;u=66195) into Superstar VegWebber status! Lost emails and moving continents and general foolishness on my part. I apologize to everyone and especially Shelloid who shoulda been up here from the beginning! Now that she's here at her rightful throne, we can all celebrate how freaking rad she is. And she is. Like, THE RADDEST. Yay, Shelloid!!

VegWebber since?
My profile says Nov 2006, but I know that I submitted recipes before the 'new' vegweb existed - about 2002 or so.  However, I've only really 'got' into vegweb since the boards were back up in 2008.

Vegetarian, Vegan or ??
Ooooh that's a tough one!  I strive to be vegan, however, I have just moved to a new country and whilst my diet is totally vegan, I am finding my way with non-food stuff and think I may have made a few mistakes.  So, not completely strictly vegan, but that's generally how I describe myself.

Where do you call home?
I have just moved to Wellington, New Zealand, but spent the last 6 years living in London, UK.

What do you do when you're not on VegWeb?
I work - don't we all!! I also enjoy knitting, which I don't do often enough, reading, watching films, playing puzzle games.  In the UK I loved going to the gym - see the fitness thread for my previous gym regimes!  I haven't joined a gym in NZ yet, but it's on my huge list of things to do.

Do you have blog or website?
I started a blog at the beginning of the year to keep all my family and friends up to date with what's going on with my life in NZ.......only I've been too busy to write it!  www.shelloid.blogspot.com.

Do you tweet?
no I don't understand it!!! I barely facebook either.

One unique thing should know about you?
I can bend my left arm backwards a bit - due to an old fracture that healed incorrectly.

What’s the best thing about being vegan? (if you are!)
It has totally opened up my food horizons - I used to be a very picky eater, but now I will try anything as long as it is vegan!  There's so many foods I have now tried / cooked that I wouldn't have done if I wasn't vegan.

Favorite romantic recipe on VegWeb?
None really - I am THE most unromantic person on the planet!

Favorite recipe on VegWeb to make for non-vegans to show them how amazing vegan food can be?
Generally desserts, because most non-vegans think vegans can't have yummy dessert.  The most requested recipe at my old work was a vegweb recipe - brownies

One thing you wish you could make vegan but haven’t succeeded at yet?
There's nothing really, but a vegan marshmallow that I can obtain in NZ would be amazing in hot chocolate (esp the french drinking chocolate on vegweb.)

#1 Cooking secret/tip?
I don't really have one - oh yes, make sure your knives are sharp!

Best music to cook by?
I don't listen to music when I cook - I like to hear my cooking sizzle and spit.

Three people you'd most like to have dinner with?
That's difficult - after much thinking, I think I would choose my best friend, Caroline because I don't see her often enough and she's vegan, plus 2 vegwebbers to prove to Caroline how amazing VW is and that she should join right now.

All time favorite restaurant?
That is very difficult...in London there were a few very good ones - I think Mildred's was one of my fave's beacause the mushroom pie is amaaaaazing, but the service isn't all that.  Maybe 222 veggie restaurant because it's all vegan and the meat eaters I've taken there have loved it, but maybe Saf because it's an awesome raw food posh restaurant.
I haven't really been to any restaurants in Wellington, although when I met up with fellow vegwebber Theodamus she took me to a lovely café called Midnight Espresso that I loved and had a huge range of vegan food

French fries or ice cream?
hmmm, that's difficult - although I am addicted to spicy fries, so at the moment I would choose chips.....sorry I mean 'fries'!

Soy milk, rice milk, almond milk?  Soy milk, because it's what I'm used to because in the UK it was more readily available and much cheaper.  I did notice the other day that rice milk is a similar price to soy milk in NZ, so I'll be trying that soon.

Tempeh, tofu or seitan?
Tofu all the way.  To me it's much more versatile than the other two - scramble, tofu 'steaks', quiche, desert, yoghurt, etc. - can you do that with the others?  (actually I don't know the answer to this!)

Congrats Shell!
