Weekly Giveaway: Giant Grab Bag from Vegan Etsy! infinitenesm is the winner!

If you're anything like me, you're obsessed with Etsy. It's the best place on the internet to buy the coolest and cutest stuff directly from individuals and small businesses. I can shop in my pajamas and support the little guy? Yes, please! What you might not know is that Etsy has an entirely vegan section! Check it out: http://www.etsy.com/shop/VeganEtsy!  Hooray! All the goods purchased through this part of the site are guaranteed vegan, and are most likely adorable and awesome. From vegan cookies and cookbooks to cruelty-free scarfs and soaps, Vegan Etsy has it all. As usual, VegWeb's got your back. We're giving away a Vegan Etsy grab bag filled to the brim with compassionate goodies to one lucky VegWebber. Hello, Christmas presents.

For a chance to win the grab bag, all you have to do is let me know what your favorite gift to give (or receive!) is?

best gift? a night like lastnight - a room full of friends and strangers staying up late into the night with a multitude of instruments and everyone singing (even folks who don't know the words). couldn't ask for anything more :)

Baked Goods!  (vegan, obv.)  I even had my family fill out a survey so I could customize everyone's treat to their own tastes.

I think the best gift is something homemade.  Whether it is food or some hand crafted.

yeah, I'm totally all about the homemade Christmas presents.  breads, spice mixes, cookies, hummous, curry pastes, whatever, my family is getting it all this year : )

I like homemade gifts too, things that I'm not good at making are the best gifts!  I love knitted scarves, cool art work, baked goods, etc

I love to bake so I'll be making a plethora of cookies...using the VegNew cookbook and Vegan Cookies Take Over Your Cookie Jar.

I like homemade gifts. Many people rarely make anything anymore. When they take the time to make something just for you it means a lot.

Hmmm best gift to receive is something someone made for me - I love that <3  :)>>>

We started a tradition last year of taking the amount we would normally spend on each family member and instead donate it to a charity. It is the most amazing feeling to give to those who really need it (and the fact I don't have to go Christmas shopping is a bonus)!

This might sound way dorky, but I like to give books of poetry. And not just to typical poetry fans in my circle. My little brother is into metal music, and one of his favorite singers put out a book of political poetry last year, and when I surprised him with it, he really enjoyed it! He even quotes it to me sometimes. I've got another friend who loves anything Yiddish/Hebrew-related, and I found a book of crazy Yiddish-language poems for him. I think it's fun and a little more thoughtful than buying typical gift coffee-table books or baking treats (I don't need holidays to bake treats for my friends and family!) That said, I would never turn down a cute scarf or neat things like antique tea cups or cookie jars. I collect cow-related things (gosh, my vegan gene is showing) and I am always looking for cow-shaped cookie jars!

I love giving people vegan treats/desserts.

I really enjoy making things for people. I'm always surprised how excited people get over something little like one of my silly drawings. I really like drawing an animal the person reminds me of (which I guess could end badly, but hasen't yet).

I taught myself to knit this year to make a present for my fiance, he may not get it until his birthday though, I'm a slow knitter :)

My favorite gift to give is magazine subscriptions to magazines that suit the individual, or books that I think that they'll like. My favorite gifts to receive are just about anything from Etsy (which explains why I love this contest), or anything from Cosmo's Vegan Shoppe, Pangea, or vegan stuff from LUSH.

My favorite thing to give during the holidays are really great Christmas cards. I will either make them myself or buy some from Etsy, and then I make sure to write some really heart-felt words to each person I know. Sometimes I may not have time to tell them how much I love them during the other seasons, but the end of the year is the perfect time to let them know!

My favorite gift I'm giving this Christmas is for my dad: I'm making a memory box for him (super little kid, right? but I know it will mean a lot to him) representing all the special things he's shared with me in my life. I'm filling it with little trinkets like a toy compass and attaching a small piece of paper to each one saying something about the memory, like how he used to write treasure directions on a map and have my brother and I use compasses to find the booty (root beer sodas :P) at the end--typical father, trying to teach me survival skills at 6, lol.

I'm not artsy-craftsy or creative, and therefore not very good at making homemade gifts.  So, what I like best is when I've chosen some sort of unique or unexpected (and usually inexpensive) gift that the recipient really enjoys -- a true smile on their face makes me happy.

I love giving "found art" and other lovelies that I find at tag sales, white elephants and thrift stores.  If I can make a pillow out of a found sweater or blanket or plant a flower in a cute vintage planter, even better!  I like giving practical, pretty things a new lease on life, while at the same time giving my money to worthy organizations and not contributing to the never ending piles of "stuff" that gets manufactured!

Just being with family and friends and basking in the warmth of love for everything that's good in life during times of celebration is gift enough -- to me at least!!
