"The 10 Best Foods You're Probably Not Eating"

I saw this article yesterday on MSN about 10 "power" foods that most people don't eat.  They had purselane listed as one and I remembered the recent post about it.  There is also mention of pomegranete juice which someone mentioned in another thread to help blood pressure.  I just thought it was interesting and I'm going to try and incorporate some of these foods into my diet.

Great list...thanks. I think I'm going to try to add some of those to my diet as well. I checked out some info on the pomegranate juice that was suggested to me for blood pressure. I'm going by the store on the way home and picking some up.

And not one of them is an animal product...  you would thing that people would get a clue and realize that animal products are not healthy!

I have heard of most of those foods but like the article says, don't eat them very much. I might try adding goji berries to my diet; I keep hearing how good they are for you, and Whole Foods usually has  a sample of them out so I can try them first. I do eat pumpkin seeds, but just at Halloween after we've carved our pumpkins. Mom toasts them with some olive oil and salt. Yum yum! When's October already?  ;D

I'm also getting hooked on raw beets, which taste hella better than canned. I have a recipe waiting to be posted for a raw beet and mango salad on here. It's one of my fave lunches!

Toasted pumpkin seeds are the 2nd most popular "junk food" here for teens, after sunflower seeds. But they are literally stiff with salt! I like to roast my own and use as a topping for curries etc.
NB moms hate their kids eating in-shell sunflower seeds because they drop shells hither and yon. You can tell where a teen has been standing at the bus stop because it looks like dirty snow...

Yay!  I eat everything on there except for guava - and that's because I don't fancy it.

About goji berries.

From the thread, "Fun and crazy thing that is all vegan yippie"
http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=16051.msg113400#msg113400

I had an 8-ounce bag of organic goji / lycii berries on my desk with the price tag of $14 still on it.  My coworker saw it and looked for them when he was shopping at an Asian market.  He found a 16-ounce bag of non-organic packaged as Fructus Lych for $3.  The difference was that my bag didn't have the disclaimer that his bag had, that the product must be cooked in boiling water above 100 C (boiling water) for more than 10 minutes before serving.  I'm guessing that's to address potential foodborne illnesses.  I'm going to boil them all at once and then let them dry again.

Toast pumpkin seeds then toss a little Braggs on them.  Really good!
