Amazon is still selling magazines about cock fighting

I don't know if any of you remember the boycott of Amazon that the Humane Society urged.  Here's a link to my orginial post:

http://vegweb.com/index.php?topic=17124.0

The Humane Society has moved on, the link says that campaign is no longer active.  But I checked Amazon to see if they still offer "The Gamecock" and "The Feathered Warrior" magazines and they do:

http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_gw/103-3458930-1101436?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=The+Gamecock&x=5&y=14

The "Humane Society" may have given up but I haven't.  I will continue to boycott Amazon and urge all of you to do the same.  By the way if you order something from Borders Bookstores, Amazon fills the order.  The only "gamecock" related stuff Barnes and Nobel sells is about University of South Carolina sports teams and  General Thomas Sumter (wose guerrilla tactics during the Revolutionary War helped American colonists win their independence from Great Britain.)  The "dog fighting" books they offer seem OK too.  They're mostly about the breeds or helping your dog fight cancer or aerial dog fights.

TinTexas!!! Welcome back!!!

I just don't buy from Amazon anyway.

yes, TinTexas! long time no "posty"!!

I'm doing a mega-envelop print-out today and can't do any other work while it runs so I thought I'd check out the new "Free for All" board.  I read other post that had a link to Amazon and I wondered if  it was OK to buy from there now.  So checked on it and decided not to co-opt that thread but start a new one.  I'm going to try to be more active on the board from now on.  I've been so busy - our offices moved into a new building - that I haven't had a lot of time to read and comment.

Man, that's awful!  And I just today found out that you can donate to the World Society for the Protection of Animals if you use the link to Amazon on their website to order your stuff.  Something like 7.5% of what your pay for your purchase goes to the WSPA.  But I wonder if they know about the cockfighting magazines....or I wonder if the magazine is offered on  the British Amazon, because thats what the donation link is for.....

Hm...I'll have to do some research....

Thanks for posting this TinTexas!

Hi, TinT!  There are a lot of people who come and go here.  You're one of the ones I miss.  I miss apstaats, too.  I see she's online sometimes.  I guess she's checking recipes, because she doesn't post.

I have to say I do use Amazon when I can't find a book anywhere else.

thought I'd post the email I got from the Humane Society regarding why the "campaign" is inactive.

"Thank you for emailing about the lawsuit we have pending against Amazon.com, and several cockfighting magazines.  Our legal team has fully briefed the case and is awaiting a decision from the Federal District Court.

We have filed a second lawsuit against the United States Postal Service.  They denied our petition that asked them to deem The Gamecock and The Feathered Warrior magazines as non-mailable.  This lawsuit, if successful, would force them to reconsider that petition.

For more information about the situation, and to read our legal arguments, please visit:

Once again, thank you for your interest in this matter and thank you for your support.

Sincerely,
Animal Fighting & Cruelty Campaign
