here's the trailer? Edit: not for those with a weak stomach.

Should it be banned?

that certainly is grotesque. probably goes too far, but I wouldn't say that's reason for it to be banned.

Wow, pretty disturbing.  You've got to wonder about the people who find this entertaining.

However, I never saw any of the Saw or Hostel or horror porn flicks so I don't know how this stacks up.  It's inevitable that this kind of entertainment is going to get more and more gross and disturbing as audiences become acclimmated to the previous level of violence.

I think it is a sad commentary on our collective psychological well-being that movies like this are even made.  What are we becoming?

Yup to everything.
It's certainly not something I'd want to see, but unless there's some sort of link between this film and homocidal/torturing tendencies or copycat crimes, there's no reason to ban it. I don't know if there's definitive research on how this type of film affects people.
If every one found it *too* grotesque and disturbing, no one would go see it. I guess this movie isn't the limit of what people will stand. ???

I agree, jkl.  I couldn't even make it through the whole trailer.  I've never enjoyed gory movies and really understand why some people do.  I don't really believe in banning things though.

eta:  I really CAN'T understand why some people do....

I wasn't able to get through the whole trailer, as I don't feel a need to make myself uncomfortable, and the images of people in pain does not please me.  I didn't get in far enough to see if there was a plot or storyline or anything else.  I don't think it should be banned unless it can be proven to harm someone.

For those of you who are interested in this sort of thing, can you explain why?

I dont see the point of this movie? Random people getting cut up for 90 minutes or so? But i dont see reasoning for being banned.

Cams, there isnt a story line at all.

after reading the comments on this thread, i really couldn't bring myself to watch this video but i wonder if someone could be so kind as to provide the *dime store version* of what the video is about - feel free to leave out the gory details, per se....

thanks

i read a book on torture a few years back, and it talked (very candidly) about so many of the ways the humanity has tortured one another throughout the ages.  I think reading that book has changed my life forever.  Makes it very difficult for me to watch horror movies nowadays.  I can manage a few, but if it's something "over the top" gory - i don't believe i could (or would want to).  It's hard to watch horror movies and not at the same time think of the real life horrors that people have suffered, and suffer in this very day and age as well.

That's where I'm at, Cammers. Of course, my first thought as a linguist was, "Well if I could read Japanese (or whatever), it might make marginally more sense..." as it was, I lasted maybe under a minute. It's just unnecessary stuff to put in my brain.

I do have a friend whose favourite film is the Texas Chainsaw thing. She says she likes being scared, and she knows stuff like that isn't real. One hopes, but then one hears what goes on (the name "Jeffrey Dahmer" springs to mind.) I mean, where do people get ideas for stuff like this? Are they sublimating fantasies or what?
And how many Dahmer-type serial killers feed their minds on junk like this? And if there weren't junk like this out there, would there be serial killers? (Probably, just different, and perhaps not as many.)

so many questions.

What was the point of putting this on VW? Are animals involved? Or veg*ns? Are they being tortured for their dietary choices? Or did you just want to disturb people?

Sorry I hadn't realised that we could only post things related to animal rights, I figured it was a place for animal rights activists etc. but not limited to just posts on animal rights. I just wanted peoples opinions.

I think it was fine to post that. There are plenty of other nvr topics in the forums, including ones on Oprah and polyamory in the news and debate board alone.

I think it's pretty interesting that the majority of us wouldn't want to watch this movie but we don't think that it should be banned. That definitely says something about this group...

Anyway, I'm not a fan of gore but lately I've been watching the show Dexter and the chopped up bodies and blood in that is fine because the show is so damn good.

mis read the last part as...

"because it is so damned good" (admittedly I was clicking off the page whilst reading, so only saw the last part, but my reaction was "that's ambigious"  ;D)

We post about a lot of things, but generally, when something is particularly graphic, there's more of a disclaimer up front for people who may not want to watch it.

Banning media in the media age is symbolic at best.  People who want to see it, will.  Someone should send a copy to Angela Simpson in Phoenix.

Sorry I thought the mixture of the title of the film and the fact that it's banned would make it clear to most people. I'll try to put more of a warning up in future.

Although I don't care for these types of movies myself,  I don't think those who DO enjoy them are secretly serial killers in the making or anything. LoL

I think it's more a "realistic" scare, and those who enjoy scary movies can get more of a scare when watching something that isn't too much of a stretch for the imagination. I mean, there are people in this world sick enough to torture and kill others, but things like, I don't know, zombies (whatever) that people don't believe in wouldn't give the same reaction.  Heck, even a zombie movie could be equally graphic!

I think I would be more concerned about the person who MADE the movie than those who watch it. :)

haha My brain isn't functioning so well, 4am.. Am I making sense?

Ohyeah, and I don't think a movie should be banned, nobody forces anyone to watch stuff they don't want to.  It's like censorship in music! (That annoys me, especially if I buy some censored CD by mistake! lol)

Oh me too, what type of axe do you use?
Personally I prefer the battle axe, but the hatchet is good if your going for pain rater than efficency...
