The BBC just ran an article that dairy is healthy...WTF?

Not entirely related, but UK related:  'I can't afford to eat healthily' says £600-a-month benefits woman who weighs 22 stone

But the 25-year-old, who receives £600 a month in benefits is unhappy because as a result of losing weight she can no longer claim disability allowance amounting to an extra £340 a month.  This, she says, means she cannot afford to eat healthily - causing her to pile the weight back on.

I want to introduce this woman to delicious, healthy, CHEAP vegan food.  Vegan is as inexpensive as it gets.

When we were in the UK we ate for, on average, £2 a day. This was feeding me, a reasonably normal-sized-person, and my hungrier-than-thou uber-athletic garbage-disposal of a husband.
It wasn't the healthiest diet ever, but it sure wasn't bad either. We bought bulk rice/pasta/potatoes, heaps of veges from markets, and basic home-brand style sauces and stuff.
So yeah, vegan or not, I absolutely refuse to believe anyone can't affort to eat healthily. It's not about not being able to afford it, it's about being too goddamned lazy to get off your arse and cook simple food for yourself.
