Cloned Cows, ORGANIC?!

It seems the National Meat Murders Association (along with the dubya for beef association) wants to be able to lable cloned meat as organic. Maybe they'll let the cloned animals suffer more during the slaughter process. Are they real, or is it memorex?

I don't even know what else to say, read it for yourself:

Wow...that is just unbelieveable.  And I especially loved the picture used in this article....further feeding into the common misconception that all cows are out freely roaming big open fields with their babies by their side.  This whole article sickens me.  >:(

well, i guess that's good reason not to eat cows.
although, if you're already dumb enough to eat cow, i'm not sure why you'd be so concerned if it's organic. that in itself seems like a bit of an oxymoron.

Many are not so much dumb as blinded. Wanting the meat that you think you need, to be organic, is possibly (for some) one step toward caring more for yourself and your environment. Once people start caring, they may end up caring alot. We just may meet a few of them here someday.  :)

I do not, however, see anyone wanting a clone in their system. :P

I've never really had a problem with cloning.  I don't see why other people do.  If you think about it, a clone and an un-clone is the same thing!  God knows where the sperm comes from to inseminate cows anyways--probably huge freezer-like contraptions.  And if cows aren't genetically maipulated in a laboraty like soy beans, they sure are breed by humans based off of their traits regardless.  That's how they've become the bags-of-milk-on-legs they are today.

If you're going to argue that cloning is bad, you need to argue selective breeding (i.e. GMO) is bad.  We need to stop messing with nature allllll around.

Thanks for the link!

How odd... I was talking with a guy in the meat section of Earthfare (like Whole Foods but, in my opinion, much better) earlier today, and we got on the subject of clones being sold as meat... I guess this is a topic on everybody's mind. Oh, and he also mentioned that Dolly (the cloned sheep) can't walk anymore.  :(

What happened to poor Dolly?

I am going to have to disagree. Sex and life are natural, injecting normal sperm into the same species with the hopes of life forming is not ok with me but I can live with it.

Duplicating an EXACT copy of a living this is NOT ok. Picking the best features is NOT ok. To be perfectly honest with the exception of humans NOTHING SHOULD BE artificially inseminated. Animals normally do not commit like humans do thats why we feel obligated to have a child with our partner. Most animals could care less going into heat and having sex with any willing suitable partner in the hopes of creating life is the goal of most animals.

Cloning = manipulation to make an EXACT copy = WRONG!

I do agree however that most things are manipulated in labs and I agree 100% we need to be against bothering nature in general, and with that knowledge I can't see how you find cloning ok.
Personally I can't agree with cloning on any level. I think it's just another way to experiment on people who dont care enough to research and torture those that can't defend themselves.

i personally feel that it's wrong that a healthy couple that can't naturally have kids spend thousands upon thousands of dollars on artifical fertility procedures instead of adopting a child. to me this seems like the most selfish thing you could possibly do. i get the whole wanting to be pregnant, and wanting it have "your own," but sometimes you don't get to have everything you want. and regecting a child that doesn't have a family on the basis of it "not being yours" seems so afwul to me.

this is way off the topic of should we eat cloned cows, but i guess it still is part of the discussion on why we as humans feel the need to much around with processes that usually work fine on their own.

Aside from the first two lines, I agree with AshleyKimball. The two end up the same. . . they will end up just as abused as a cow that was artificially inseminated;however, the sperm doesn't come from freezers, not originally anyway. It's all bad. Most, people do have a distaste for cloning, though. It's something they don't understand and therefore their hidden morals can recognize that it's wrong. Like in all things, the government will get their minds reconditioned soon enough.

I was really just posting to back-up Rachandra--you don't get to have everything you want! (I wanted to have one child). Adoption is always the greater choice, even if you can have your own children without help. Did a little rambling here, don't know if I actually said anything. . .

That would be a good explanation of why she can't walk.  :'(  So sorry, the masked omni didn't, so somebody had to say it.

The word "organic" doesn't translate for some reason into Spanish and French, they use the word "biological". I went to a shop that offered "biological eggs" and I asked the man, hey, what other kind are there? But mind you, any day now they'll have strictly chemical-based eggs...along with everything else...having eaten govt-issue powdered eggs as a child, I doubt they had ever seen a chicken even in the distance... ;D

If you really analyze the words, aren't organic and biological the same thing?

No... They're the same, but different. >:(

Ah, so I misunderstood what the guy said. He mentioned early arthritis, and I thought he meant she -just now- got it...

Quote:
Possible signs of her condition were reported in January 2002, when Dolly was five years old. She had developed a potentially debilitating form of arthritis at an unusually early age.
