Free book download

Just wanted to let you all know that there is a new book called "Vegan: The New Ethics of Eating" that is available for free download at
http://www.vegan.com
Look on the left side of the page for the link.
I just downloaded it but have not had a chance to read any of it yet...  Let me know if it is any good!  :)

I've been giving out that address for the book here in various posts for a few months now.  It's a great book.  It's a bit stomach churning and heart breaking in the parts where he discusses how animals become "food" but if you're "on the fence" about going all the way to veganism, it's an important read.

Also, The inside back cover of the current issue (May/June 2007) of Vegetarian Times has an ad for a free download of "The Real Forbidden Fruit:  How Meat Destroys Paradise and How Veganism Can Get it Back" by Jeff Popnick:  www.TheRealForbiddenFruit.com/Vegetarian-Times

You have to give "him" (a mailbot) your email; he'll send you a confirmation link and then another email with the download link to the pdf file.  The whole process only took a minute or so for me.

I decided to check the goings on here and haven't started reading it but it's free so what the hell.

Thanks, KendraKat and TinTexas, I've downloaded my copies, too! :)

I didn't download it, I bought it- but it is an AMAZING book.  It goes through all the different reasons to be vegan- health, animal cruelty, factory farms, land conservation, energy conservation, world hunger, and more.  The way the stories are told are very interesting too, especially the couple who run Farm Sanctuary.  I am trying to make friends and family read it too, but they don't seem to want to...surprise surprise.  ;)  Enjoy!

I can't get my DH to read anything animal rights related or watch some of the videos on youtube that are animal rights related.  He knows that if he learns the truth of what is actually done on the factory farms and the slaughterhouses that he wouldn't be able to eat meat anymore and he's too "in love" with his BBQ.  He does only eat meat outside the house (at restaurants and cookouts, etc.)

It's interesting (I'm not sure that's the right word) that there are people who say, "Don't tell me," or I don't want to know about it," because obviously they know there's something wrong with eating meat--at least to some degree whether it's factory farming or health and environmental issues. If someone were truly ignorant about factory farms or the health or environmental problems related to eating meat, seems to me they would not think to object to reading something. I guess we all stick our heads in the sand about one thing or another. :(

Mine was the same way for a while and I finally convinced him to read "Diet for a New America" and he only got about half way through it-now is almost vegan, but eats fish on occasion but never at home.  I wanted him to read it so he would understand better why I wanted to raise our child vegan. I seriously didn't think he would change his own diet.  He looks so much healthier and feels much better too (and smells better)! The other trick is spoiling him with great vegan comfort foods.

Thanks a lot for posting this free download. It is full of great information.  Since I am still in the process of becoming vegan, I will use the information in this book a lot to help me answer questions that meat eaters will be asking me.

It uses a lot of paper, but bookpapa printed The Real Forbidden Fruit for me and took it to Office Depot. They "bound" it with their spiral binding machine and put a clear cover on the front and a black cover on the back for under $4.00!!! We're going to do that with Eric Marcus's book, too. Even with the paper, ink, and binding, we came out cheaper than we would had we actually bought a copy--so I really appreciate the free download.  :-*
