Green Taxi Cabs!!

I saw that on the news.  Very cool.  Here's another link:

California is trying to set emission reductions from new vehicles, but the auto industry is fighting them.  It's not in this article, but Toyota and, I think, Honda, are fine with the reduction limits and expect to be able to meet them.  It's the US manufacturers that challenging the State.

That is so great that they are doing that in NYC! I think there are many metro areas that need to get on board with better mass transit. One thing NYC has is a great transit system of trains, buses, and taxis. Where I live now near Atlanta...they keep voting down every train system that anyone mentions. it never really even gets to the drawing board. There are many so many cities that need to get people out of their cars. People here almost seem to have a fear of using mass transit....like it's only for those that can't afford to have a car. The majority of the cars I see (actually I should say SUV's and Pickup Trucks) are often being driven by 1 person with no passenger. That is the case with many growing cities.....when will they "get it" when it comes to mass transit? I only WISH I could take a bus into town when I don't need to pick up a bunch of stuff...sad that I don't even have that option!
Thanks for the "green" article Lauren! :)

I'm a New Yorker...and I'm sooooo happy to have such a great transit system (& now "green" cabs!).  I just bought my first car this month after living without one for about 8 years.  The only reason I even need it is because I have a second (music) job outside the city...and my regional train commute was hours each way.
Anyway - yay for NYC!

Yeah, I remember that from when I lived in Atlanta. It was partially a racial thing - I heard racial jokes about MARTA. At one temporary job, my employer actually told me "When we heard you were coming here on the train, we were worried you might be black" :o >:(
