Hemp!

I am getting more and more frustrated these days with why hemp is illegal and why the government can't legalize the growing of it here in the U.S.A.  Everything I read shows how versatile and environmentally friendly it is....
I guess I just wanted to state that opinion and see what others have to say.

Agreed. There are so many uses for it, and in tough economic times, it would be a great way to boost the economy through profits/taxes from it.

Aren't they talking about legalizing it in CA?

Yeah, well it is legal for medical uses in some parts (or the whole state? i'm not sure?).

i think the question originally posted talks about hemp in general, not just marijuana (which is only the female plant?)
there is a possibility that MJ will be legalized (for recreational use, it is already legal medically) in california, though, yes.

teade, it frustrates me, too. wouldn't the price go waay down in the stores if we could grow it here? i think it costs me about $14 a lb for hemp seeds.

The prices for hemp seeds and products are quite high, it would HAVE to go down. I'd hope so at least.

Kind of on topic, kind of off. But me and my mom were at WF and she saw hemp seeds in the bulk bins, and she came up and whispered to me "Sarah, sarah, theres hemp seeds over there, do people get a buzz off those?? Can they sell those here??" Heh.

Haha, I know how you feel... I get strange looks from family when I talk of hemp seeds, or hemp milk.

I am also frustrated that our government goes to great lengths to not legalize a product that is so beneficial! I know that currently there is legislation in my state (IL) to legalize medicial MJ - every other day there is another letter to the editor about why it is so horrible and why is needs to stay illegal....

Regardless, it is an all around beneficial product, and for the most part most of our society isn't educated enough to know all of the benefits, but if you want to tell them they think you are just a pot head (and I don't smoke MJ, I'd lose my job - closed minds... sterotypes... dammit....)

Definitely.  I don't smoke either, but you'd have to be crazy not to see the benefits of the plant.
I know that the government also tries to shut down the medical mj facilities, or at least watches them waiting for them to mess up.

I know, it's just one big damn consipiracy!
I can't remember the documentary I watched - but basically said the government OK'd the MJ use, then gives the info to the DEA to have a sure fire bust! geez!

I have a family member addicted to meth, and I hate to see it. I personally think that if MJ was easier for her to get her hands on, she'd use it and I personally prefer that, she is just an empty shell right now and all she needs is cleaning chemicals to get her next fix!!! I know I am not the only person who see's the craziness of this!
Anyway, sorry got off on a MJ rant... the thread I think was supposed to be about hemp in general...

I hope to see hemp get the recognition that it deserves, be we have to fight for it.

I'll be honest, i used to smoke, but because my dad did. I mean, i think the medical uses for it are INSANE and really need to be legal everywhere! My dad smoked when he had cancer, he lived a year longer than anyone said he ever would, and recovered quickly from brain surgery. He thanked MJ, he said when he didnt during his illness, he felt terrible, there were times he was about an inch away from killing himself, and he probably would of without it.
And i also agree that it would lessen the need for other hard to reach and expensive drugs.
I know, i'm just continuing on the semi off topic portion, but oh well, hah.

Marijuana cured my depression for a short while.  I qualify for medicinal in this state if I want, but spending $500 to get a card and still having to break the law to buy it seems kind of stupid to me.

There are countless articles about how effective marijuana is for so many health issues.  As for hemp, I am, as you can probably tell, for the legalization.  I mean, other than soy milk, hemp milk is probably one of the best non dairy milks on the shelves, but $4 for 32 oz. is extreme to me.  I still buy it when I go to Whole Foods.  I think that we kind of need to put our money where our mouth is.  Maybe have a national hemp awareness day?  It may be expensive, but it's also one of the healthiest seeds there are.  It has every amino acid that we need to consume without having to use animal proteins.
