KFC Buckets for the Cure

I saw an ad for this on a website I visited today.  I thought it was a joke, but it's real.  What do you guys think?

http://www.bucketsforthecure.com/

I do not assume that EATING KFC WILL CAUSE CANCER, although I haven't seen proof that it doesn't.

I think the "KFC Buckets for the Cure" is a total conflict of rationality, but most people will forgive the irony because they're "doing their part".

KFC's reputation benefits (what a perfect moment to roll this out along with their new "double down"....google it.  prepare yourself) and people can feel charitable without having to do anything out of the ordinary.  It's a win-win.

It's hard to argue with fundraising, but I would rather just donate the cost of the bucket of KFC directly to Komen (or other charity), rather than filtering it through a corporation that destroys life (humans, animals, the earth).

Exactly. At bottom (and up top) it's just another marketing tool. "Look at us, we care." Not enough to serve healthy food, but enough to jump on the current bandwagon and look all warm and fuzzy.

ETA: I googled that Double Down thing. It makes Cosby's "bacon burger dog" look like health food.

Ok.  I had no idea what the Double Down thing was, so I Googled it too.  Double yuck!!!  I can't imagine eating that even in my chicken-eating days, but then agani I grew up in California.  I'm pretty sure I'll heard my friends bragging about eating several of these soon, but they usually go to the local KFC that has a all-you-can-eat buffet.  I just feel bad for their obese kids that will probably struggle their whole lives with their weight.  I don't care who they fund raise for, KFC obivously does not care for the health of their patrons.

Wow, OK I had not heard of the "double down" disgustingness either.  Does anyone know what double down means?  Was triple bypass already taken?  And really??? KFC has an all you can eat buffet?  I don't even want to imagine what that must be like. :o

I worked at a restaurant in high school that had an all you can eat fried chicken buffet with all the usual shit that goes with it, and it was so disgusting. The amount of grease we would go through is absolutely astounding. The people eating off said buffet looked miserable. Gross. I can't even think about it now.

If I'm not mistaken,  "double down" is a gambling term, to go double-or-nothing on your bet. You let it ride, doubled.
Probably roulette, given the sandwich.
(Actually it's blackjack).

I just watched their commercial on YouTube. Their tag for the product is "Unthink." Yeah, that fits. Don't think about the fact that you've eaten about half of a chicken's body weight in one "sandwich." Or about the crap you're putting in your body. Just eat it.
"Unthink."  ::)

My daughter saw that creepy sandwich on facebook & said "There is not one vegan thing in that sandwich. Not one!"

KFC sells grilled chicken which HAS been linked to cancer (http://www.pcrm.org/Magazine/gm09autumn/kfc.html) . Not breast cancer, but still, they knowingly serve food that increases a person's risk for cancer and do nothing to educate people about that fact. And they're going to pretend to care about breast cancer? Ugh. I despise them.

This has probably already been posted somewhere, but I'll link it anyway: http://vegansaurus.com/post/498511783/vegan-double-down

They donate 50 cents per bucket. I can't see how that could even begin to make an impact on finding a cure. Just look at how many families have to fork up tens of thousands of dollars just paying for the treatment that even their ensurance won't completely cover. Then think about people who have no insurance. If you gave them 50 cents and said "here, hope it helps," it might be an insult. Then look at all the chickens who were slaughtered for this "bucket for the cure" crap. How much is a bucket? A few bucks? Divide that by how many chickens are in each bucket.. Wow, put a couple bucks max to a chicken's life. It's bogus. Screw KFC.

And the farmers who raise chickens get only a few cents per bird, while the supermarket where I live asks 2-4 Euros per kilo depending on the cut. Choice cuts go for 4 or even 5 Euros the kilo, while the farmer gets something like 50 cents per bird. So that 50-cents-per-bucket lowers the price even more.

i am so sick of corporations acting like they really give a fuck about charity... they do it for 1: to look like they care and to make sure corporate executives take a cheesy picture of handing out the donation check while making no effort whatsoever themselves and 2: for a tax write off...

i hate asking for donations when i cashier... every month at vons it's something new to ask for... the thing is they have the option to donate on the payment machine but I still have to ask if they will donate... it makes me uncomfortable that i am forced to ask for donations... people are really rude to me when i ask...

don't tell my managers but i only ask when they're around

and BTW KFC donating to breast cancer... your crappy food is one of the main causes breast cancer! ugh so disgusted
