NVR - Let's Pretend To Be Cool

By flouting our current musical whims in front of each other, eh?

Inspired by LadyDragonfly's thread (which I didn't want to derail with list making), I want you to share what your current musical fixations are, and maybe a playlist if you're up for it.

Currently: Surf is king in my ears, followed by Charles Mingus. But I've been feeling very schizo musically lately.

To point, my current stack of CD's for work today:

James Hunter - 'People Gonna Talk'
Zombie Ghost Train - 'Glad Rags & Body Bags'
The Duo Tones - 'Surf Music Unplugged'
v/a - 'Halloween Hootenanny' (a Rob Zombie compiled horror surf/psychobilly comp.)
v/a - Cheapo Crypt Sampler #2
The Boston Symphony Orchestra w/Seiji Ozawa - 'Carmina Burana'
Screaming Lord Sutch - 'Monster Rock'
Charles Mingus - 'Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus'
Hem - 'Home Again, Home Again'
The Sword - 'Age Of Winters'
Roky Erickson & The Aliens - 'The Evil One'
Witchcraft - 'Firewood'
The Pine Valley Cosmonauts - 'The Executioner's Last Songs Vol. 1'
Bad Religion - 'New Maps Of Hell'

Yes, I will probably get through all of that, if not most, today.

Artists, mixed CD's/songs:

Ani DiFranco (Dilate, Live in Chicago, Knuckle Down)
Tori Amos (American Doll Posse, The Piano-A collection)
Greg Laswell (toledo)
Sia (colour the small one)

I know there are more, but eh, I can't think.  I just like to sing in my car.

I'm a classic rock girl myself.  Currently listening to some Rolling Stones, which will be followed by Queen, Led Zepplin, The Doors, and Blue Oyster Cult, just to name a few. :)

I'm listening right now to a mix CD made by one of the cast members of our last show as a good-show gift. I'll also listen, during the course of the day, to Dar Williams (The Beauty of the Rain), Alexi Murdoch (time without consequence), and Regina Spektor (Begin to Hope).

I have a mix cd going right now, but it's always on.  Cat Power, Jeff Buckley, Mirah, the Pixies, Bikini Kill, Blondie, Flogging Molly, Kasabian,  Cowboy Junkies, and Talking Heads are just some of the artists on it.

Regina Spektor is one of those artists that I repeatedly wonder why I don't own any of their albums.

EDIT TO ADD: "We're Bikini Kill! And we want Revolution Grirl Style... NOOOWWW!!!!"

Well, since I'll be doing thesis research all day I'll probably be going with Shiny Toy Guns, TV on the Radio, Kenna, Islands, and as always Guns N' Roses.

I'll have you know, that I'll resist with every inch and every breath, I'll resist this psychic death.

There's more than two ways of thinking

there's more than one way of knowing

That's awesome! Now you child can't say, "Look what you've taught me, you taught me nothing."

And not for nuthin', but I'd like to mention my 21 month old does a mean version of 'Rock and Roll High School' by The Ramones.

So cool!  Yeah, our kids are getting quite the education, I'd say.

My Ipod played for me this morning:

Depeche Mode "Sombody"
Jimmy Eat World "The Middle"
K's Choice "Not an Addict"
Meg Hutchison "The Crossing" entire album

I didn't get to "Hey There Delilah", Rusted Root "Send me on my Way", or Snow Patrol "Chasing Cars"

But it will on the train ride home.  After that its a mix of Blue October, John Mayer, DMB and Voltaire.

Oh geez, a music thread - I'll try to keep my post shorter than War and Peace, but no promises. ;)

Some albums I'm hooked on...

*Robbie Robertson and the Red Road Ensemble: Songs for the Native American - this is great chill-out music, especially if you like tribal/world/New Age-y music but not the boring kind with chanting children and flutes

*Moby: Everything is Wrong, 18 - I like all his CDs (though didn't care for Animal Rights - not my style) but these two are ones that I get hooked on easily and listen to frequently. I also made a Best Of compilation (yeah, I have that kind of time on my hands) that I like listening to; it has at least one track from each album of his that I own. I also recommend getting your hands on "Next is the E (Club Mix)," that song is amazing and addictive!

*Ziggy Marley: Conscious Party - every track is great, and I love "Tomorrow People." The Best Of is also a good album.

*Peter Phippen: Echoes of the Past - Native American flute music. This is my favorite album of his.

*George Winston: Forest, Winter/Spring, Linus and Lucy - I love George Winston music; it's so nice and peaceful without being dull. If nothing else, listen to these two tracks: "Cloudy this Morning" and "Rain."

*Ryan Farish: Beautiful, From the Sky, Everlasting - yeah, his music is played on the Weather Channel, but it's so good. I love "Pacific Wind," "Beautiful," and "Together We Will Conquer."

I listen to many artists and music styles but you can usually count on many of these albums being played at least once a week on my CD player. :)
