NVR - What are you reading right now? (Fiction or non-fiction)

I'm reading 'Raising Vegan Children in a Non-vegan World' by Erin Pavlina.
I'm curious what everyone else has their nose in at the moment!  :)

I didn't know they lived in the same monastery... I think they were tpgether to encourage each other... And probably it was not common that so many members of one family enter the orders...

I have just finished readding The Carbon Diaries.  Whilst it is aimed at a younger audience, I did think that it brought up some interesting ideas.  I really enjoyed it.

I am now reading Less Than Zero (Brett Easton Ellis), which already I have really gotten into, but I looooove his books.

I am just about to go to Amazon to buy some books that I have earmarked from another thread.  I will also trawl through this threadd for some ideas.

Aunt Dimity's Death, such a cute little mystery book when you are tired of all the bloody ones. Although the protagonist drives me a little nutty sometimes.

Just finished Roberto Bolano's 2666 (absolutely brilliant!) now I'm reading "The Savage Detectives".  Just ordered a book about the LRA ("Kill Your Family First") from Amazon so I'm really excited about that.  Also, I'm rereading just when there's some free time a book of short stories by David Foster Wallace called "Oblivion".

I wanted to read A New Earth by Eckhart Tolle, but I was told it is a sequell to The Power of Now.  So I just started it (as in Im still in Chapter one).  I just never seem to make time to read books.

But I'm also reading this magazine I just found (do magazines count?).  It's called Vegetarian Times. I had never seen or heard of a magazine geared towards vegetarianism.  there is information and recipes.  Some are vegan, some are not but could probably be vegan using substitutions.  Just thought I'd share this with everyone about the magazine, if your interested.  vegetariantimes.com  :)

I am ecited about my new amazon & ebay book purchases.

On recommendations to KMK in her recommend a book thread I have just bought 'Lullaby' (Chuck Palahniuk) - recommended by JBB and a few others, 'Brothers K' - recommended by AC, and 'Miss Smilla's Feeling for Snow' - recommended by Yabbit.

I can't wait for them to arrive.  However, Brothers K is coming from the US so that'll take ages to get here.

Magazines count you are reading and learning just the same.
Vegetarian Times is a good magazine and has been going more vegan lately.
Thankfully for that since I have 8 years left on my subscription.

For a a really good magazine look for VegNews totally vegan with a bit of raw vegan.

Thanks.  I'll check it out online. I was really surprised to find this kind of magazine around here since it's more of a 'specialty' magazine instead of generic star gossip thats easy to find. Plus it's from the states and I live in the beef capital of Canada.  I'm definately getting a subsciption.

I keep a copy of the current issues of VegNews and Vegetarian Times in my bag.
So when I am at the office I can let my curious coworkers look at them.
Always asked like the same questions every week.

Has anyone on here read Paul Auster's "New York Trilogy"? What did you think of it?

I'm reading The Tower of the Two Ravens by Kate Forsyth. It's good so far.

Hopefully, I will also be starting a giant book of the collected works of H.P. Lovecraft this week.

I always refer to the OT as "drugs, sex and rock and roll." Yes there are drugs in it...check out Leah's deal with Rachel for the Mandrake roots in Genesis. And Jael,  that lady who nailed the guy's head to the ground with a tent spike...an enemy general. He asked her for water to drink and she gave him milk? ? My considered opinion is that she drugged it, as he soon fell asleep and she nailed his head to the ground.

Nursing textbooks.

That is all I have time for   :-\

But that reminds me, I wanted to ask a question about books.  Do they have any good novels out there about Veg*ns or other earth-friendly people?  I am looking for a light, easy summer read and all I can seem to find are books about young 20-something girls living in NYC that like to shop and have jobs they don't like...  That seems to be a re-occurring story line in the chick-lit books.  Can anyone recommend a fun read that doesn't fall into that category?

Uhh... Inorganic Chemistry textbooks - I feel your pain.

One of the best books I've read recently though:  Female Chauvinist Pigs by Ariel Levy.  She's not really one of those "out there" feminists.  It discusses how women are opposing women and it talks about playboy and preteens ith thongs and miniskirts and over-sexing marketplace and the lesbian dynamic... probably not new topics but it's a GREAT book.  And I'm not much of a reader.

I'm rereading the Twilight series (including the rough draft of Midnight Sun!).  The books have their flaws, but I'm in love with Edward Cullen.  And THAT'S why I read them.  : D
