What DVD are you watching lately?

I have BBC's Persuasion on, but I can't really get into. I've heard thought that BBC's Sense & Sensibility is good. Of course I"ve watched the Ang Lee Emma Thompson version which is superb... I may get it this week to see  :P

sunday I watched the original Diablique, and monday night I watched Up in the air.  Both, very good.

Is that Les Diaboliques with Isabelle Huppert? Very good, very scary in a creepy don't-watch-it-alone-at-night way.

Saw Al Pacino in "Simone" yesterday. He does a good crazy! Though he did repeat a scene almost word for word that he did in "Author, Author!" in 1981 or so. "Simone", the story, was kinda Huh? until you grokked the irony. (How did he get Winona Ryder to send herself up like that?)

no, it's from 1954, Simone Signoret is the main star.  Really good, you would like it!

Checked w/DH and you are right. The Huppert one was a remake. Darn--now I gotta find the original.
If it's scarier than the one I saw--good night!

I watched He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not with Audrey Tautou (from Amelie). Great movie, and a bit of a departure from how I've seen her in roles. It was a great movie, and I don't want to tell you much more, because the big surprise of the movie, halfway through, was ruined for me by the description. I wish I could've been surprised! Good movie though.

I also watched Abdurdistan, about a Russian village and their water issues and how the women decide to make the men do something about it. It was a quirky, clever lovestory, and it was very well done.

I watched Julie & Julia the other day. The storyline was cute and all, but there were so many shots of non-vegan foods. It was a bit much.

I watched I've Loved You so Long, and it was incredible. I was spellbound from start to finish. Kristen Scott Thomas is one hell of an actress. The way the story unfolds is beautifully done. You only know as much as you need to, but you're left with more questions until the very end. Then it all finally makes sense and you can put your pieces together.

And finally, I watched The September Issue. I was pleasantly surprised at its substance. It was an easy movie to watch, not asking much of its audience. No thinking, just sitting back and seeing. Sometimes these type of movies are fun and relaxing.

Saw Barton Fink last night, a Coen Brothers film. Not my favorite Coen film, by far. There really was no plot/storyline. It was almost just a series of acts tied together. In typical Coen fashion, it ended abruptly, with no questions answered. Unlike other Coen films, I didn't care enough to sit down and work through it. Skip this one.

I just finished watching two rockumentaries...

"It Might Get Loud"
-and-
"Under the Great White Northern Lights"

Both were excellent and are highly recommended!

I watched From a Whisper to a Scream last night. It has Vincent Price and made in 1986, so he's pretty old. He doesn't have a main character like you would assume from most of his movies--he's more of a story-teller. The movie is actually a series of vignettes that he loops together. For a horror movie, it's actually pretty good, and for an '86 movie I'm shocked at how realistic some things looked. It's actually a little jarring and surprising, and I don't typical get "horrified" by horror movies. So, I think it pushes the line really well. If you're into slightly cheesy horror that's actually decent, watch this!

Excellent classic movie!
"Temptation, Mr Allnut, is what we are put in this world to rise above."

Only Katherine Hepburn could say that without sounding silly.

I'd like to see that in English. In Spanish it wasn't very good but it came out during the dictatorship so the script may have been altered in the dubbing. You wouldn't believe what they did to Mogambo.

Love Alfred Hitchcock. I've just gotten off a phase of watching his movies and Alfred Hitchcock Presents.
Now I'm watching the Sarah Silverman Program

I watched The Men Who Stare at Goats the other night, and I loved it. It had a such great mix of dry humor, inside jokes, and Jeff Bridges that I was hooked. I honestly don't know how long the movie is, because I enjoyed it so much it flew by. My bf really enjoyed it too.
