What song is stuck in your head today?

WHY oh why is it that the song that gets stuck in your head and goes roundandround all day is never one you actually LIKE? In fact, it's usually one you hate!

And if not, you hate it by the end of the day.

Today I'm stuck with a song from "Guys and Dolls": Sit down you're rocking the boat.
Sigh.

What's in your head today?

Come and Get It as sung by Badfinger. It was used in an Army Recruiting ad on TV during Viet Nam, which was ironic as hell now that I stop and think about the words.
Particularly this part:
Did I hear you say that there must be a catch?
Will you walk away from a fool and his money?
(Yeah, I'd say there must be a catch--you enlist and find yourself in a war!)

If you want it, here it is
Come and get it
But you better hurry 'cause it's going fast

(Except that it didn't go very fast. It went on and on.)

Latter Day Geography Lesson

This, said the Eskimo master, was London in English times.
Boys that swear, Master Redtooth, I slap 'em
I dis-tinct-ly heard you say "bastard"--don't argue...

Oddly enough, I woke up with Queen singing "Fat Bottomed Girls". I hope the record changes soon!

I spent yesterday in Crescent City, CA where we spread my sis-in-law's ashes at the ocean where she always said she wanted to live.  The song Dust in the Wind has been going through my head.

Thank you, semiveg! I love that song and haven't thought of it for years (no exposure to rock music these days).
I woke up with Forever Autumn in my head...bliss....

And today it's,
You put the lime in the coconut and drink it all up,
You put the lime in the coconut and call me in the morning...

Oh lord...today I'm stuck with "Sunrise, Sunset."
We were talking about the bad old days in the 70s when I had to sing at people's weddings. Why did brides always choose the most difficult, least appropriate songs for their weddings? "The Way We Were." Honey, that's about a bitter breakup, not a wedding. Didn't you see the movie?
Basically they all wanted Barbra Striesand or Dan Fogelberg or Simon and Garfunkel to sing at their weddings...and they got me.
And I didn't get the money, which was given to my father (who often officiated, as well.) For singing at the wedding of some total stranger, often with less than 12 hrs notice.
To this day I hate weddings and refuse to attend them.

^^ "Sunrise, Sunset" - such a great song!! Isn't that from the musical Fiddler on the Roof? I saw it in Chicago and thought it was an okay show. :)

Yup. I don't know how different the movie is to the musical; in the movie you can definitely see the join between the happy-clappy first part and the serious, dramatic second. Like (ugh) The Sound of Music (aka The Sound of Screaming).
I hated trying to sing it solo at weddings because it was obviously written as a duet, for older people. And here was me about age 13-16 doing it on my own. At that age I hated the sentimentality of the lyrics.
Ugh, ugh, ugh.

I never saw the movie. And seriously?!?! They had you sing such an adult song at such an age?? Wow.

My song -

Shake me down,
Not a lot of people left around,
Who knows now,
Softly laying on the ground
Not a lot people left around

In my life, I have seen,
People walk into the sea,
Just to find memories,
Plagued by constant misery,
Their eyes cast down,
Fixed upon the ground,
Their eyes cast down

I'll keep my eyes fixed on the sun

Shake me down,
Cut my hair on a silver cloud,
Broken sound,
Softly laying on the ground
Not a lot people left around

In my past, bittersweet,
There's no love between the sheets,
Taste the blood, broken dreams,
Lonely times indeed,
With eyes cast down,
Fixed upon the ground,
Eyes cast down

I'll keep my eyes fixed on the sun

Turn back now its time for me to let go,
Way down had to find a place to lay low,
Lampshade turned around into a light post

Walk around the corner,
Never saw it coming still,
I try to make a move,
It almost stopped me from belief,
I don't wanna know the future,
But I'm like rolling thunder,

Even on a cloudy day

I'll keep my eyes fixed on the sun

:)
