Falafel

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

    3/4 cup cooked chick peas
    1/4 cup tahini
    1/4 cup finely chopped onion
    flour
    oil for cooking

Directions:

Mash the chick peas, tahini and onion together and form into one inch balls. Dredge these in flour and deep fry at 350 degrees. They can also be made into patties and sauteed if desired, a patty makes a good vegan pita bread filling.

Preparation time: 5min

Is that all there is to falafels?  I have been making them with a pre-made mix (bought in local grocery stores) for years and have wondered if I could make them myself somehow.  This is so simple I feel like an idiot for not having researched this earlier! Thanks!

thanks for the recipe! I've been looking for this for a while!  About the last comment... With the store bought mix, did you deep fry the balls or did you sauté patties?

I've used the store bought mix and I've always pan fried them, they are quite tasty.

Thanks for a falafel recipe that doesn't use eggs.  I look forward to dropping this recipe off at my universitys lunch room so they'll have no excuse not to serve vegan food :-)

the most important ingridient in falafel (after the chikpeas ) is fresh greens- petrosille and/or kusbara (koriander).add as much as possible without the balls braking apart.also all sorts of spices come good- experiment to determine your personal favorites.
