Almond Shake

Ingredients (use vegan versions):

1/2 cup almonds (raw are fine)
    2 cup water
    maple syrup (optional)
Approximately 3 frozen bananas (cut into bite-size chunks before freezing)
    3 Tblsp

    carob powder

Directions:

Grind almonds in a blender for 1 to 2 minutes.  Add one cup of water and blend at high speed for 2 minutes.  Add another cup of water and blend for 2 more minutes.  Pour alomond mixture into a strainer lined with cheese cloth over a large bowl.  Let strain for several minutes.  Pour almond milk into a container and chill for several hours. (Makes approximately 2 cups almond milk)

Place 2 c. almond milk in blender and add a few frozen bananas at a time while blending at high speed.  Add carob and frozen bananas to desired consistency.  Enjoy!

Sounds gorgeus but I don't like almonds but I'd try it if there was some booze in it!!!

its really yummy.  i don't like bananas in shakes but you couldnt taste the banana in this one.  maybe because of the almond milk.  =)

This is okay.  Dh and I found it rather strong.  We made replaced the carob with cocoa and used only 1 Tbsp.  Next time were leaving out the cocoa entirely.  Really watch the maple syrup.  Just a bit will do.

7/17/05 - Nothing like fresh almond milk! Its enough for two servings. I didn't have the patience to wait for the almond milk to chill since I had it for breakfast, so I used only 1 cup of water and the rest ice to chill it a bit. I didn't have carob powder on hand, so I used pure cocoa powder. I didn't find the amount too strong at all. I added more cocoa. and I used half molasses and half maple syrup.  Very nice and filling.

I just can't stomach bananas.  What can I substitute in all these shake recipes?

mgtr6070--try silken tofu!

You could also use avocado, if you don't mind the funny colour the shake will be.

Thanks! I will try the tofu first...I like avocado but I'm just not sure I'm up to the odd color today
