I took me year to discover arugula (a gourmet restaurant insalata mista) and I am making up for lost time. Eventually I can imagine adding lighter lettuce to the mix (frisee). I grow my own arugula: last years planting yielded from May/June into frost!
I'm not familiar with Arugula - what is it? Perhaps they're known as something else here in Australia?

Other common names for arugula: rocket, roquette, rucola, rugula. I have no idea what its called in Australia, but botanically it is Eruca vesicaria, a member of the mustard family. You should be able to find it even if you can only order from a seed catalog, its easy to grow and tastes great as a salad green or cooked.

Thanks for the recipe. I'm growing arugula in the garden for the first time. Saw the seedlings at a local garden center and they brought back found memories of a delightful meal in Rome, Italy several summers ago: a white pizza (olive oil, garlic and italian seasonings) with a layer of raw arugula and fresh mozzarella balls on top. Just the smell of these greens takes me back!

Hi Bob, I was searching for arugula recipes on internet and I came accross your recipe. I am from Turkey which is also located in Mediterrean Region as Italy. It is a pity that everyone thinks it is an Italian green. We also have it so does Greece...We like to eat it especially with fish. It is commonly served with extra virgo olive oil and lemon juice dressing... I am now in Wisconsin visiting my friend here for a while...And she had also liked this taste in Izmir (Smyrna), Turkey and wondered if she could find some in the States... After searching, I learned it was called Arugula (it is called roqua in turkish) and was able to find in Copps. Yet, our arugula has a more bitter + strong taste... Howe'ver, it is so expensive as it is considered a gourmet green. So I would like to grow some here, but I would like somebody who had already experience with the planting arugula in the States. Would you mind giving the details and what types of problems you had encountered in getting your first year? Do you think we can manage to grow arugula in midwest? iIt is to my understanding that your crops were frozen? Thanks Sibel
