Reminder; this recipe calls for cooked
chickpeas. Theyre great out of a can.

I thought this needed a little kick. I also added mayo (where can I find the vegan stuff?) and some paprika/hot sauce, but it seemed like it still needed something...maybe onion. It tasted more like egg salad than tuna. Not like tuna AT ALL.

jillebeans, you can find a product called Nayonnaise in most health food stores. i bet even places like whole foods and/or fresh fields have it. i know my normal (but somewhat fancy) grocery store carries it. don't expect it to taste like real mayo though or have the consistency of it. its more like really soft miracle whip. if anyone knows of a better vegan mayo that is available in canada let me know.

Veganaise is a much better vegan mayonnaise that actually tastes pretty close to the real thing. I'm not sure if its available in Canada, though. Its made by Follow Your Heart. The same company makes the best vegan cheese I've ever had. My jar says its manufactured by Earth Island, Chatsworth, CA 91311. Their website is
www.followyourheart.com. Good luck!!

ummm....Did I miss something? Why would this recipe taste like tuna? It tastes almost like hummus. I throw on lots of raw veggies like radishes, etc. Yummmmm.... Think I'm going to go make one right now.

Oddly enough, my local organic grocery store sells what they label as a mock tuna sandwich, and it is based on mashed
chickpeas. It is vegan, and vaguely reminiscent of tuna, which probably results less from the
chickpeas and more from the addition of sweet pickle relish. I bet they use
nori or some other seaweed to get a fishy taste. Next time I'm there, I'll see what other ingredients are on the label, and report back.
