375 milliliters vegan Merlot wine
2 teabags black tea
2 cups water
5 whole cloves
1 whole cinnamon stick
4 whole pimientos (aka allspice)
3 pieces broken off an anise star
Zest from 1 orange
3 tablespoons sugar (or to taste)
Orange juice (optional)
1) Place all ingredients in a small pot and heat just below a simmer. Be careful not to boil. You will lost all the alcohol and a lot of the flavor if you heat this too much. Keep the lid on and let heat for 10 to 15 minutes. You can turn the heat off and just let it sit for a bit, but take out the teabags at some point so it doesn't get too strong. Add orange juice to taste, if desired.
2) Strain into mugs and drink responsibly.
This is best to drink when it's cold outside. You can make this non-alcoholic by using red grape juice instead of wine, but the wine is traditional.
