1 medium onion, peeled and finely chopped
2 tablespoon olive oil
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
2 teaspoon mustard powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika
salt and pepper to taste
1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon brandy
1/4 cup molasses
8 oz. tomato sauce
32 oz. cooked navy beans
In a large pot, saute the onions and spices in the olive oil over medium heat, until the onions are translucent. Whisk in the cocoa powder and brandy, add the tomato sauce and molasses, stir well, then add the cooked navy beans. Mix until beans are completely covered with sauce, then turn heat to low and simmer uncovered for 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours.
