1 1/2 cups textured vegetable protein granules (TVP)
3 cups water, divided
1 un-chick'n bullion cube
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
3 tablespoons olive oil
1 medium yellow onion, finely chopped
1 medium bell pepper, finely chopped
3 cloves garlic, minced
3/4 cup ketchup
4 tablespoons mustard
1/4 cup barbecue sauce
1. Put textured vegetable protein in a microwave safe bowl. Add 2 cups water, bullion cube, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, pepper and red pepper flakes.
2. Microwave on high 3 minutes, stir and repeat every 3 minutes until liquid is absorbed. In a large skillet, saute the onion, bell pepper, and garlic in olive oil until onions are clear.
3. Add the textured vegetable protein to the skillet and cook over medium-high heat, about 10 to 15 minutes, until it starts to brown.
4. Add the ketchup, mustard, and barbecue sauce along with about 1 cup water. Simmer, stirring constantly, for about 5 minutes.
Serve on vegan hamburger buns.
