Black Bean Burgers

What you need:

1 can black beans, drained
1/4 cup fried onions (fresh or packaged)
2 slices multigrain vegan bread, crumbled finely
Cracker crumbs
Salt, pepper, other seasonings (your choice)
Oil or no-stick spray (for frying)

What you do:

In large bowl, mash beans. Mix in crumbled vegan bread, onions and spices. Mix thoroughly, and add just enough cracker crumbs to make patties capable of holding together. Form mixture into patties or balls. (These can be coated with more cracker crumbs, if desired.)
Fry patties on both sides in a lightly greased frying pan.
Serve on buns, or any way you like em!
P.S.: Works with almost any kind of bean!

SO HOW'D IT GO?

I just tried this recipe, and I love it! I always order the black bean burger at Chili's, which is out of this world in my opinion, however I can only imagine how unhealthy it is. This homemade version is just as delicious and much better for you!

I added nearly a whole large yellow onion, several cloves of garlic, cumin, chili power, black pepper, crushed red pepper, some sodium free herb seasoning, and some Lawry's Baja Chipotle Marinade I had on hand. I used Corn Flakes as the cracker crumbs and 1 slice of bread instead of two.

Admittedly I had some trouble keeping the patties together, but oh my god were these delicious! All the seasonings I added were like a flavor explosion, and the texture of the crispy patty was incredible! :D I already can't wait to have my left overs!

I think I just added too much bread to these, or not enough water when I should have added more. I baked them instead of frying them, and they sort of fell apart and got really dry... they still taste good in the centers which didn't dry out too bad. I'll definitely be trying these again, though, because the middles of the patties I made were DELICIOUS. Nomming on them now.

i made these with "seasoned" canned black beans (i'm not sure what it was seasoned with; the ingredients list only referred vaguely to "spices") so i didn't think i needed to add other spices, which ended up being not really correct. i think rinsing the beans washed off most of those "spices" so next time i'll add some of my own.

also i took it up a notch and cooked these on the grill which i highly recommend. the only problem i had with this method was that they came out a little dry on the outside (although the inside was perfect) so next time i might brush them with oil or something, although they were still good as they came out. i would definitely make these again!

This is my all-time favorite black bean burger recipe! It has wonderful flavor.  I added some garlic and onion powder, yum,  So good! Thanks for the recipe!  ;)b

This was delicious! I added cumin, ground coriander, paprika, and garlic powder; and omitted crackers. I had it on a homemade rye bun (from vegan dad's post) with ketchup and dijon... so good! Also a side of oven fries dipped in BBQ!

The first one done seemed like it would hold together perfect, then it started to squish out everywhere. So the others I cooked for longer (like 15+ minutes on med/med low heat) and they were beauties! Haven't eaten them yet, but they held together going in the tupperware! Very tasty!  ;D Try cooking a bit longer on each side if yours are falling apart!

Very Good!
I made them just like the recipes says, except I omitted cracker crumbs and just added some more fried onions....I also added a squirt of BBQ sauce for more moisture....
I put the beans, bread, and fried onions in the food processor - it was super easy!
Grilled them in the George Foreman....held together perfectly, unlike most veggie burgers I've made....

Yum yum yum! These were amazing and easy! I added some corn salsa and garlic powder before making the patties. I had no problem with them sticking, either.

oh my gosh I didn't even think to put guacamole on it. I bet it would be AMAZING

These were really good with guacamole on them. I sautéed some garlic and mushrooms with the onions, and put a little bbq, and soy sauce in the bean mixture. Along with some garlic salt, salt, and pepper.
