Brandi's Famous Caramel Apple Pie!

What you need:

Pie:
1 pie crust
3-4 large Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored, and sliced very thinly Caramel topping:
1/2 cup vegan butter
3 tablespoons flour
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/3 cup water

What you do:

1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Pile apple slices in pie crust, and lattice crust over top of pie.
2. In a saucepan, bring caramel topping ingredients to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for five minutes.
3. Pour caramel over top of pie so that it seeps into the apples and covers the lattice.
4. Bake for 15 minutes uncovered, then cover with foil and continue to back at 350 degrees F for another 35-45 minutes.
Enjoy!

SO HOW'D IT GO?

This was so delicious! My husband said it was better than his Nan's apple pie.  One tip: Don't be afraid to pile the apples high in the pie.  I only used 3 apples because it didn't look like more would fit.  I didn't realize how much they were going to flatten when cooked.  Next time I will be sure to use 4 or 5 apples for a thicker pie!

This pie is really good. I used only 1/2 cup each of the sugars. The pie crust recipe I used wasn't great (my first time using it.. I'm having a difficult time finding the perfect vegan pie crust), so my lattice was a bit thicker than I would of liked.. but the filling was soo good. :) I made it as an anniversarry desert for my guy.. he loved it!

I want to make this pie but I'm terrible at making pie crust!  Can anyone suggest a fool proof pie crust recipe or tell me where I can find premade vegan pie crust.

Thanks :)

I was told this was the best pie I've ever made.  I will definitely make this recipe again.  I sprinkled some cinnamon on the apples (Gala, Pink Lady, and Ambrosia apples) before I poured in the caramel sauce.  I used all the caramel, and it was absolutely delicious.  Everyone will love this pie, vegan or not.

Eh...this was ok, but it didn't taste very caramel-y to me. If I had added spices to the apples it probably would have tasted like a run-of-the-mill apple pie. The sauce in the pan tasted really good - like caramel - but after the pie was baked and sat overnight that flavor just wasn't there. Maybe I did something wrong because everyone else seems to think this is the best apple pie ever.

I would give this 10 stars if I could.  Fabulous, can't wait to share it tomorrow for Thanksgiving!

made this a couple of days ago.  made my own crust, sprinkled on some sugar/cinnamon mix (as previous posts had suggested) and saw what looked like too much caramel.  poured it all in  anyway and the family haven't stopped talking about it since.  they're all begging me to make it again lol.  definitely a winner.  thanks for the recipe. ;)b

I made the caramel sauce for a cake this weekend.  Very nice flavor.

this is seriously good, I used the recipe by eval(unescape('%64%6f%63%75%6d%65%6e%74%2e%77%72%69%74%65%28%27%3c%61%20%68%72%65%66%3d%22%6d%61%69%6c%74%6f%3a%48%46%57%68%69%74%65%64%40%61%6f%6c%2e%63%6f%6d%22%3e%48%46%57%68%69%74%65%64%40%61%6f%6c%2e%63%6f%6d%3c%2f%61%3e%27%29%3b')) called "best ever pie crust" and I used all the toffee sauce. Looked like it was drowning in sauce, but it was so delicious! Thanks for the recipe.

Yummy! I used 1/8 cup butter and only 1/2 cup total of sugar.... Of course, when i poured it over the pie, there wasn't enough grease to make it slide down into the apples, so it mostly just sat there on top :D It didn't matter - between the two of us eating it, it was gone in less than 24 hours. Next time, i think i'll mix the sauce with the apples before putting it all in the pie crust. Thanks for a great recipe!
