Brownies

What you need:

2 cups flour (I use enriched and whole wheat), divided
1 cup water
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup baking cocoa
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup chopped nuts, optional
1/2 cup vegan chocolate chips, optional

What you do:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F, and grease an 11x7" pan. Boil water and 1/2 cup of the flour over low heat, stirring constantly, until it reaches the consistency of a thin gluey paste. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
2. Mix vegan brown sugar, granulated sugar, salt, vanilla, cocoa and oil. Then add the flour and water mixture. Mix well.
3. Add the remaining 1 1/2 cups flour, baking powder, nuts, and chocolate chips.
4. Spread mixture into prepared pan. Bake for 25 minutes, or until a knife can be inserted and come out clean.
This was a really easy, and really tasty recipe. I gave some to my friends and they fell in love with them. They keep asking me to make more. I thought of maybe putting some chocolate frosting on them, but they were perfect without it. Enjoy.'

These Brownies turned out wonderfully! I was a little worried when the batter was so thick, but they came out perfectly chewy!

These seem to be better each time I take one out of the freezer. I don't understand why! Freezing either.. does something.. or maybe I just happen to take the best ones out last? lol
Either way, the substitutions I made are bound to have caused them to be a lot different, which I totally overlooked in my last comment.
Anyway, I really like them now; they're very very moist, rich (probably because of the carob, honey and spelt.. mint balances it out though) and moreish. However, due to the substitutions that I'm particular over, I don't think I'll make them again.. Unless there's a special occasion, because I'd like to see how they turn out using the correct ingredients (which is obviously the key..) and maybe switching around the flours (oat, rice) and sugars (fructose, date syrup).
Thanks again, great recipe!

ok, i forgot to boil the flour/water mix, i only simmered it a little while.

i didnt let it cool before adding it to the rest. it came out a big chocolate blob, not looking like any brownies ive ever tried.

i will post again when it comes out the oven..... hope i didnt mess it up

ehhh... i wouldn't make these again, but perhaps i just dont like vegan brownies-i havent been impressed with any recipes so far.

We finished these, but something about the taste seemed off to me, maybe i needed to put frosting on it??

at least it wasn't banana-tasting though!

this was my first vegan baking experience, they are pretty good, i loaded them with pink and white icing (for valentines) and it made them seem more moist and sweet.  delish!

i made these today and added some peanut butter frosting on top.  yum!  like somebody else mentioned, the texture is a bit like hostess cupcakes, but the flavor is much more interesting.  anyways, they were very good.  too good actually, my stomach hurts a bit now...

My dad made these yesterday. I thought they were okay but not outstanding in any way.. did use spelt flour, carob powder, honey, peppermint extract and fresh van. pod though. Tasted just like chocolate and was lightly sweet, the mint adding a freshness, nice after a meal. I spread peanut butter on top which was yummy, however I think we used a slightly larger pan than specified which left them a little thin. They're nice and everything, moist.. just wish they were as nice as the pictures! Anybody got suggestions?
Thanks anyway!
