Brownies

What you need:

2 cups flour (I use enriched and whole wheat), divided
1 cup water
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup baking cocoa
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup chopped nuts, optional
1/2 cup vegan chocolate chips, optional

What you do:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F, and grease an 11x7" pan. Boil water and 1/2 cup of the flour over low heat, stirring constantly, until it reaches the consistency of a thin gluey paste. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
2. Mix vegan brown sugar, granulated sugar, salt, vanilla, cocoa and oil. Then add the flour and water mixture. Mix well.
3. Add the remaining 1 1/2 cups flour, baking powder, nuts, and chocolate chips.
4. Spread mixture into prepared pan. Bake for 25 minutes, or until a knife can be inserted and come out clean.
This was a really easy, and really tasty recipe. I gave some to my friends and they fell in love with them. They keep asking me to make more. I thought of maybe putting some chocolate frosting on them, but they were perfect without it. Enjoy.'

SO HOW'D IT GO?

I must have done something wrong...the flour/water mixture was not pasty and kinda chunky...so when the brownies finished baking you could still see little circles of white. They also kind of stuck to the pan. They tasted fine...a little chewy. I'll try them again sometime to see if they turn out.

you have to dissolve the flour in the water before turning the heat on.

I guess I might as well join everyone else by saying this is an AWESOME recipe! I think i'm the only chocolate lover in the household so i'm kinda guessing i'm going to have to ea all these brownies myself! Or at least I can try! :D

SO GOOD.  I've made these twice.  The first time I wasn't so impressed, but I think it was because I subbed maple syrup for most of the sugar and they were dense and not fluffy at all.  Trial number two was superb.  Light and fluffy, super chocolately and the perfect brownie texture.  I indulged and added a chocolate frosting to the top too (which came in handy when the bottom of the brownie remained in the pan after trying to pop the whole thing out :-\.... I glued it back on with the frosting.  :))

These brownies were great after it's been cooled off in the fridge for a few hours. When warm it was a bit like eating cooked flour with sugar. Aside from that these brownies were what brownies are supposed to be, gooey, chewy, chocolaty (I added 1 cup chocolate chips) and they satisfy my craving for sweets and chocolate!

I certianly were eating these brownies for days after I made them.  I still don't think that they are as exciting as some made them out to be.  I  cooked them a little bit longer than suggested, unitl a toothpick came out clean.  However, when they were cool enough to slice and try, they didn't seem like they were cooked as much as they could have been.  The were more of a fudge consistancy and flavor. :-\

These brownies were so delicious!  I've never tried vegan brownies before, so I'm glad my first ones turned out so well.  They were really moist and delicious.
