Brownies

What you need:

2 cups flour (I use enriched and whole wheat), divided
1 cup water
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3/4 cup baking cocoa
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 cup chopped nuts, optional
1/2 cup vegan chocolate chips, optional

What you do:

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F, and grease an 11x7" pan. Boil water and 1/2 cup of the flour over low heat, stirring constantly, until it reaches the consistency of a thin gluey paste. Remove from heat and let cool completely.
2. Mix vegan brown sugar, granulated sugar, salt, vanilla, cocoa and oil. Then add the flour and water mixture. Mix well.
3. Add the remaining 1 1/2 cups flour, baking powder, nuts, and chocolate chips.
4. Spread mixture into prepared pan. Bake for 25 minutes, or until a knife can be inserted and come out clean.
This was a really easy, and really tasty recipe. I gave some to my friends and they fell in love with them. They keep asking me to make more. I thought of maybe putting some chocolate frosting on them, but they were perfect without it. Enjoy.'

SO HOW'D IT GO?

just reading the reviews im seriously hungry for these! ; i'll deffinitly be making these sometime soon.

do you think that i could sub all the oil for applesauce??

yes, others have successfully done that. note that they'll be more cakey and less fudgy that way though.

At first the mixture seemed doughy, so I added some softened vegan butter... then the batter was fudgy. I only put them in for 15 or 20 minutes because I like fudgy brownies instead of cakey. They are delish. I should have added choc chips though, but I didn't have any.

Love the texture and that they don't have soy milk or egg replacer in them but they taste a little too salty to me and are still cooking after about 50 minutes.  I don't think I like the vanilla extract in them either...

I will be trying again!  Oh how I wish I had some vanilla ice cream to go with them!

Had no brown sugar so I just used 2 cups regular sugar.

I'd sure like to know why my brownies came out soooooooooooo dry.  They are uneatable.  I made these for a party and decided to try them before I went.  Thank goodness I did because they were awful.  When everything was mixed it was more like dough than a batter.  Can someone enlighten me?  Has anyone else had this experience?

My "batter" was pretty dough-y too, but it ended up cooking perfectly. I think I made these a long time ago and used applesauce instead of oil, and they were much drier, but still good. So pretty much I'm no help. Maybe try them one more time?

I'm eating one right now. Sooooooooooo delicious. Turned out way better then I thought it would. I folllowed the recipe exactly and didn't add any nuts or chocolate chips. They're so chewy. My dh is going to love me when he gets home and tries one of these.

I made these last night, and they turned out really well. In fact, I think they turned yummier and fudgier over the course of the day. My batter was also very thick like dough, but it didn't seem to affect the end product at all. Definitely give them a try!

The first time I made these they were GROSS! they were tough and rubbery. but i have tried them twice since then and they were gr8.

they always seem more like a dough and i end up adding about a cup of water.
