Calico Beans

What you need: 

1 package burger-style crumbles (like Boca or Morningstar Farms)
1 onion, chopped
1/2 cup brown sugar (Sucanat works fine)
1/2 cup ketchup
1 teaspoon mustard
2 teaspoons vinegar
2 16 oz. cans beans, your choice, drained (kidney, butter, black, etc.)
1 16 oz. can vegetarian baked beans

What you do: 

Combine everything in a large bowl and mix well. Pour into a casserole dish and bake at 350 degrees for 40 minutes.

SO HOW'D IT GO?

i just made this and added some liquid <3 smoke and cut the brown sugar in half and then added maple syrup. it's in my oven right now and i am very excited.

tomato paste is a good substitute for ketchup.

Very sweet! My wife detests baked beans, and is never much for meat substitutes, but she loved this dish. I tossed in a little cayenne (because I'm a junkie for the stuff), and I will be making this again and again. Most likely by demand.

It's also great to have another BBQ side with spring and summer on the way.
