Chana Masala
2 tablespoons vegetable oil
1 medium onion, chopped
1 large clove garlic, minced
1 tablespoon curry
1 tablespoon tomato paste (I used ketchup)
1 (15 ounce) can chickpeas, drained, reserving 3 tablespoons liquid
1/2 tablespoon lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon salt
fresh black pepper, to taste
crushed red pepper, optional, to taste
1 tablespoon margarine
1. Heat oil on medium high heat. Fry onions until slightly browned. Reduce heat to medium. Add garlic, curry, and paste.
2. Stir and simmer about 2 minutes. Add chickpeas, reserved liquid, lemon juice, salt, and black pepper. Simmer 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally.
3. Add red pepper to taste. Add margarine, stirring through to melt it. Stir and simmer for 5 minutes more or until peas are softened and dish is hot. Serve over rice.'
SO HOW'D IT GO?
This recipe is great! It's really quick and easy, and very tasty. I added more of each spice, some garam masala , and coconut milk. Really good!
This is such a simple recipe with a great taste. I used double the curry powder and tomato paste recommended and included some coriander leaves and a touch of cayenne pepper.
Only serves one person - Me :)
Perfect with a cup of spicy chai tea on the side.
I love this recipe. My personal changes are: add a little ground cinnamon, and I usually use 4 or 5T tomato sauce instead of paste. I make it at least once a week, it's an extremely healthy and delicious meal! It's amazing together with lots of peas and brown rice or couscous.
this was great! i also added turmeric. and doubled or maybe tripled the amount of tomato paste. turned out soooo good! i'm no longer afraid to cook indian food!
This is delicious and so easy! I went a little overboard on the red pepper, but it warmed me up after a chilly bike ride. Thanks for sharing!!
So i just made this....and my tastebuds are doing the cha cha!!!! This is absolutely delicous!!! The flavors have a perfect contrast....wow. ;D
Mine didn't turn out very well at all. ( i believe its my fault!!!) Well first of all i ran out of chickpeas and i didn't realize until i made it, so i had to use black eyed peas. Next, i didn't have curry so i made some based on an internet curry recipe without a few of the vital curry items because i didnt have any. It wasn't terrible but it just wasn't what i thought it was thanks to me. I'm going to attempt to make it tonight and then i'll post the results. Sorry for the overlylong post!!!!!
;D !YUM YUM YUMMY! ;D
This was so quick and easy, even when low on groceries and time I had everything for it. Can't want for lunch tomarrow!
Yum!! I made this for my family when they came up to visit, and even my carnivorous, anti-chickpea stepfather loved it. My mother insisted on getting a copy of the recipe. :)
I cooked this over the weekend, wonderful, everyone likes it. thanks for this receipe
